Wand noticed the villagers actively avoiding him.
'They really are suspicious of outsiders huh? Well, it's a given I guess.'
'But how did the village leader find me? He doesn't have a survey ability and anyone with such good survey ability wouldn't stay here. The main continent sure lacks good survey ability users.'
'Well, I guess, I can't hunt monsters right now. Maybe I should enquire the villagers about monsters found near the sea.'
Wand approached a man in his 50s plowing the field near his house.
"Excuse me, sir! Do you have some free time?"
The man looked at Wand as he straightened his back.
"I am all ears. You are a student from the Academy right?"
"Yes. I just wanted to ask you About monsters found near this island. You see I have been sent by the academy to Investigate the death of a student and my friend."
"Oh, That kid right… What a shame that the 14 tentacled squicales got him. He was really a kind kid, he even healed us elderly." The old man spoke softly.
Wand's eye shined as he heard the man speak.
"The 14 tentacled squid you say? Did anyone see it kill him?"
The old man put his dusty hand on his chin.
"Well Noone saw him getting killed but We found his bloodied clothes near the shore. Other students speculated that the kid was sightseeing the night sea."
"Hmm… thank you, gramps!"
"It's fine." The old man slightly smiled.
'Although the rumor sounds believable at first. There is no way the squicale killed Skyler. With the physical training he did with me, he should have been able to escape it. There is also a zero percent chance that another strong monster is nearby. Up on the surface, the squicales all occupy strict territories.'
'And the most important thing… the squicale I killed yesterday didn't have any kind of metal item or the academy's badge inside its stomach'
'That means…' Wand's face hardened.
"Someone from this island killed him. But Why? Was it that girl Linda? She appeared quite hostile." Wand silently muttered. He could still feel two presences stalking him the whole time he walked in the village.
Two shadows far away hid behind a house and whispered to each other.
"From his talks with the Old man, He really is here to investigate. Let's inform the Leader and his guards."
The other shadow nodded.
Wand felt the shadow leaving his Sense zone.
'Did I clear off their suspicion? Unfortunately for them, I am going to investigate a bit more.'
Wand then approached his temporary residence and passed in front of the Village leader's house.
'What does the leader do in the basement? I need to find an excuse to enter his house and teleport inside at night. Although this guy appears friendly, he put two men to stalk me and one is still near my room.'
After that Wand walked toward the village leader's house.
"Halt! What do you want." Linda said as she lowered her spear to block Wand's way.
"I am just here to talk to the Leader. You know I gotta investigate!" Wand smiled.
"Hmm. wait here I will call the leader. Karl, watch him." Linda narrowed her eyes as she entered the building.
"Warren, That kid is here to meet you. Should I send him?" Linda screamed towards the stairs in the house.
Wand could sense Warren hurriedly going up the basement to the ground floor and getting out of the room to meet Linda. The front door was open and Wand could clearly see Warren opening the door of a room.
"Sorry Linda, I was resting for a while in my room. I must be getting old." Warren's smile looked like that of a gentle and wise old man.
But to Wand that smile was anything but gentle.
'Why did he lie to his own subordinate? Does she not know there is a basement? This old man is really getting suspicious by the minute. What exactly is in the basement?'
"Karl, do any of the villagers have a basement? I wanted to ask this to Leader but it looks like he started chatting with Linda." Wand asked Karl who was staring at him.
"A basement? Why do we need that? No one has it in this whole village." Karl replied looking at Wand like he was a monkey.
'There are two possibilities either these people are hiding the basement from me or Warren is hiding it from everyone. Both are equally suspicious.' Wand narrowed his eyes.
By this time Warren had arrived in front of Wand.
"You wanted to discuss a few things right? Then let's talk inside my office on the second floor."
"Ok."
They both walked up the stairs and reached his office.
Warren sat on the chair as he sighed.
"Alright then! What did you want to ask?"
"I want to see the location my friend was killed in."
"Ok. I will send Karl with you." Warren looked out the window. "But what about doing that tomorrow? The sun is going to set in a while and Karl is also going to go back home. I can't overwork the village guards, after all."
'My objective has been completed anyway.' Wand thought.
"Alright. Tomorrow morning then." Wand replied.
Wand slowly walked out of the building after carefully looking at the first floor.
Wand then proceeded to go inside the room he had been assigned and he quite obviously threw the meal he had been provided and instead ate some coconuts.
'I am getting tired of eating coconuts daily.' Wand snorted.
Wand then slept for 4 hours and woke up at midnight.
'With the instant teleportation spell, I can only teleport to places that I physically see but with portal, I can teleport to far away places. But making a portal inside the leader's house might be dangerous as it's slightly time-consuming to make one and time is of the essence right now.'
'I have only hypothesized this before but combining only the good aspects of portal and instant teleportation should be possible.' Wand closed his eyes as he envisioned his cube.
After a moment a black mist enveloped his body in for an instance and he disappeared from the room.
Wand appeared in the corridor of the Leader's room. He smirked a little bit as he felt his unie increasing by two whole percent! — Filling 26% of his Unie reservoir permanently.
'Although this spell consumed unie by 1.5%. It's versatility makes it worth it!' Wand was happy.
Wand stopped in front of the Leader's room.
'Now, let me see the secrets hidden in the basement!' Wand tried to slowly push the door.
