Chapter 14 : Time to test
Lying in bed, I reflect on the past four weeks. It's been a period of intense training, with nothing but honing my curse energy, working out, eating well, and becoming familiar with my new surroundings. The place is vast, filled with numerous training areas, each offering new challenges and opportunities for growth.
I've been making significant progress, especially with my eyes. I've perfected the ability to slow down objects coming at me, and I can activate a technique that slows everything around me for two seconds. In this state, I'm able to move at normal speed while everything else moves in slow motion. It's not quite time stop, but it's close enough to feel almost supernatural.
With a smirk, I receive the call from the higher-ups. There's a knock on my door, and I know it's Suzuki, the only one who shows any real warmth. But even her kindness can't mask the cold, calculated environment that surrounds me. I open the door to see her standing there, a smile on her lips.
Over the past week, we've grown quite close. She's been a comforting presence, offering massages after my grueling training sessions, cooking meals for me with her mother, and providing insight into the life here.
"Good morning, Master. Breakfast is ready. Today's your first mission," she announces.
I give a curt nod. "okay"
As we head downstairs, I keep my focus sharp. Breakfast is laid out, but my mind is on the mission ahead. Suzuki tries to make small talk, but I'm not in the mood for pleasantries.
"So, what's the mission about?" I ask, not bothering to hide my impatience.
Suzuki looks at me with a mix of concern and determination. "It's a semi-grade 2 curse spirit. It's been causing trouble in a nearby area. The higher-ups want it dealt with before it escalates. It has a knack for creating illusions and manipulating its environment."
"Any specific weaknesses?" I press, my tone cold.
"Not much detail," Suzuki replies. "But it's elusive. Your eye technique might be useful against its illusions."
i know I say, dismissing the conversation as I finish my meal. The mission is the only thing that matters.
I head to my room to get dressed, pulling on the black shirt and pants provided for me. As I'm about to leave, Suzuki's voice calls out from behind me.
Please, be careful out there. Come back safe she says, her voice tinged with genuine worry.
I give her a curt nod. "I'll be fine.
Just a weakling curse afterall.
Outside the driver who brought me here waits her demeanor cold and professional. "How was your stay? she asks, her eyes scanning me critically.
"It's been fine" I reply, keeping my tone as indifferent as possible. "The training is effective."
The driver's gaze lingers on me. "You've changed. Bigger, more imposing. That growth spurt seems to be doing its job."
"Let's hope it's enough," I respond, my voice carrying an edge of dark determination.
We drive in silence, and the driver's questions about the mission are perfunctory. She seems more interested in observing me than in engaging in real conversation.
Eventually, we arrive at the location—a grand, imposing house. The driver quickly places a veil around the house to conceal our presence, her actions precise and deliberate.
This is where it should be she says coldly. "I'll wait for you outside. Don't fail."
With a nod, I step out of the vehicle, ready to face the curse spirit that awaits. The house looms before me, and I enter with a sense of grim purpose. This is not a task for the faint-hearted it's a chance to prove my strength and control.
