Ethan stood in a room, observing the various affected areas in Jerusalem. He also reviewed footage of Anton's battle against that demon general, whose name they never discovered.
That battle was one of the largest ever recorded. Now, Ethan understood the magnitude of a confrontation between fully incarnated demons and humans in the world.
Killing werewolves, or vampires, was different. As a hunter, one needed to end the battle as quickly as possible, relying on plots and the necessary armor to do so.
A long battle meant many unforeseen dangers, complicated situations, and untimely moments.
Ethan preferred to kill swiftly and be ruthless rather than wait longer than necessary.
"Do you have any thoughts on how we should handle the battle in Jerusalem?" At that moment, Anton entered the room where Ethan was reviewing the footage.
"An angel... I didn't think you had that level of blessing."
"It was something unexpected."
Ethan nodded slightly and said, "I have nothing to say about the fight. I'm glad you made the decision to reveal dark entities to the public; believe me, all hunters appreciate that."
"I thought you hunters didn't seek public recognition." Anton approached a table with drinks and poured two glasses.
Ethan seemed less intense on the subject and said, "Don't include me among hunters who do this to protect the country, the people, or the world in general... The life of a hunter is more miserable than you can imagine. They let themselves be guided by the pleasures of the moment because they expect a quick death on one of their missions."
Anton handed a drink to Ethan and listened to his words: "They don't seek recognition; they seek security. They want to know if they're really doing the right thing. I myself question whether it's right to sacrifice my life so a millionaire can live a full life. I really thought I'd enjoy it more when the dark entities rebelled, but it wasn't what I expected."
"We don't always get what we want, and the rewards don't always satisfy us either." Anton understood more than Ethan realized.
"What you suggested is complete."
"How many?"
"Only nine hundred supernatural beings. Most are werewolves, vampires, and guardians," Ethan said, handing over a list of his newly formed squadron.
Anton looked at the title and was surprised to see that the Secret Division of Dark Entities Against Anomalies had been created. He hadn't expected it to happen so soon.
"Untimely?" Ethan asked, noticing Anton's expression.
"No, timely."
"They'll be ready for the battle you're anticipating. Their only requests are the protection of the new human races that will be offered and a position within the Light Association."
"They won't accept it..."
"You have to do it. Use supernatural beings to kill supernatural beings. If they disobey or break their word, we'll kill them all without mercy," Ethan said, staring at a map showing all the red points where dark entities were registered as harmless.
Anton then recalled the rumors about Ethan, all of which were true. He was one of the most ruthless hunters to have ever walked this world.
"It seems you have a good point. Since you've fulfilled my request excellently, you'll have the position to lead them."
"I don't want more work. I'll retire after the great battle." Ethan wanted to refuse, but Anton didn't give him the chance.
"They need you. I need you."
Ethan was visibly annoyed and demanded, "Pay me in silver."
"You'll have it."
