Next to the pack of cigarettes, Anton had a lighter that seemed to be of very high quality due to the embroidery. The appearance and details of the lighter were the same as the purple cross on his chest.

Looking at the cigarettes in his hands, Anton put them in the pocket of his jacket.

He didn't love smoking for pleasure but out of the need to calm his nerves.

He didn't care about his health; from the beginning, he needed something to calm himself when facing evil, and now he does it out of habit.

Of course, he knew he could quit at any time.

Anton drove the van very calmly because there were no other vehicles on the road besides them.

It was already night, and Anton didn't want to get too distracted because bad things could happen, like an accident.

After about an hour of driving, Anton looked ahead to see if there was a farmhouse but didn't stop. "What's the population of this remote town?"

"I think there are no more than 5000 inhabitants." Alexander, who was reading a book after finishing the report of the previous job, looked up to where Anton was looking and smiled at the goats.

Anton knew he should stop to rest; he needed to sleep if he wanted to be in optimal condition for tomorrow, so according to the map, there should be a hotel not far from this distance.

As he kept driving, all he could see were large abandoned fields. This town, according to the information he obtained, was dying. The Light Association was interested in creating an experimentation base in this place as in other more isolated areas, but this hadn't been done because resources were being directed towards improving weaponry.

"Do you feel that in the air?" Anton asked as he closed the van's window and turned on the air conditioning.

Alexander detected a rotten smell; this aroma wasn't from a dead animal but directly from hell.

"Do you think it's infectious?"

Anton couldn't answer this; he parked near what seemed to be abandoned ruins.

Turning on the van's extra lights, the dark place lit up, and all that could be seen were collapsed houses of very ancient appearance.

Anton assessed the place before approaching.

After confirming that there was no one nearby, he leaned forward, leaving the van behind but instead holding a flashlight.

He soon reached a demolished wall.

It seemed to be the wall that supported this house. Judging by the length, it shouldn't have fallen due to time but due to something else.

Anton stayed in place, surveying his surroundings.

"There's something here, sir." Alexander drew his gun from his waist, covering Anton's back, who hadn't made a move.

Crack!

At that moment, Anton thought it was an animal, but he didn't exactly imagine what he would see. In the distance, a deer with white eyes and some pus coming out of its body stared at them.

"I can't believe it." Anton looked at this with a slightly different expression.

What was in front of them wasn't a simple deer; what they were looking at was a creature infected by a possessed. The only reason possessed are treated quickly is that, as time goes by, if they are not treated and are only kept locked up, they will begin to release diseases, spread evil, and move freely among those in contact with their existence.

"I'll call the central..." Alexander knew this, and what he needed to do right now was call the central office to have this town sealed from end to end.

Anton walked towards the animal, raised his gun, and said, "If you think you can invade my mind by killing yourself, you're very wrong; I'm going to find you and eliminate you."

Bang! Bang! Bang!

As soon as he reached the deer, he took out a cigarette, and after lighting it, he threw it at the deer's corpse, which ignited as if it had been doused with gasoline.

"We have to find it before the infection spreads." Anton was about to turn around, but at that moment, a dog emerged from the darkness and headed towards him with intentions of attacking.

Anton remained unfazed; he raised his gun and calmly shot it in the head several times until it stopped moving.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

"Tell them we have an exposure of a possessed; we need to contain that infection in this town, so they must deploy light forces immediately. Anyone who wants to leave must be killed or burned, and no matter what they say, they shouldn't be believed."

The last time something like this happened, an entire town was exterminated; the evil that was unleashed that day was so brutal that even the Light Association was sometimes defenseless, knowing that everything had gone out of control.

After giving the orders, Anton walked towards the van and, without saying a word, left the place after burning the body of the dog that had come out to attack him.

At this point, whoever the demon was should have realized his presence as soon as he set foot in that demon's thing.

"Call Rafael; tell him to come with a special team first thing in the morning." Anton said as he took an assault rifle from the back of the van.

"Understood, sir…" Alexander was breaking out in a cold sweat because things now seemed to be going much further than just a dangerous dark entity.
