The next day, Anton spent the whole day investigating but found nothing related to the werewolves. Anton had slept in a safe house near the operation area, provided by the Association of Light, so he spent the night there.
"Yeah, I didn't find a damn clue about what they've mentioned, so I want a team no later than this afternoon." Anton said this while talking to the administration.
He had spent a long time investigating, but there were no similar cases of violent murders. It seemed to be a confusion in intelligence, and it might actually be a case of vampires.
To be honest, he didn't want to bring his team from another location because, theoretically, he was a hunter doing a special job with deeper experience. But because the information was confusing, he first had to find out if this case was really about vampires or if it was a new case that hadn't been recognized yet.
"We will update the information, Guardian. Also, a team will be sent in response to your request." Anton calmed down, hung up the call, and walked to the kitchen to pour himself a glass of water. He knew that if this case involved a vampire, he had to be very careful, as they usually create small armies to protect themselves from organizations like the Association of Light trying to hunt them.
Vampires couldn't be seen by cameras; they were strong and very cunning, to the point that finding them was complicated. But if he was right and Charley knew something about the vampire his friend had been investigating, then he would know the answer to his question.
At that moment, just when Anton was about to say he was going to have lunch, he received a call from an unknown number. "Who is this?"
"I'm Charley. I have something very important to say to you about my friend. Can we meet?" Charley, on the other end of the call, seemed very agitated.
Anton, who noticed the time, said, "Can you come to the restaurant near the university?"
"I'll see you there in half an hour."
"Wow, it seems he's desperate..." Anton looked at his cell phone that had been hung up and sighed. He had his flight booked for a few days, so he thought of resolving this before leaving, but now it seemed that things would be more turbulent than he had thought.
After dressing, he walked to his car and quickly headed to the restaurant.
...
Half an hour later, Charley arrived at the restaurant and quickly located the guy who had visited Ed's house. He approached him, and the first thing he asked was, "Do you know what Ed was investigating?"
Anton smiled subtly and nodded. He looked at Charley, who was showing signs of serious stress, so he said, "Of course, your friend was investigating vampires, and since he's not at home, he's probably dead or a vampire right now."
"How do you..."
"Calm down. If he were a damn vampire, he would have been dead a long time ago from direct contact with sunlight. What do you have in your hands?" Anton saw a yellow folder in Charley's hands, so he focused on that.
Charley was first surprised and then asked, "Who are you? How do you know that a person evaporates when touched by sunlight if they've become a vampire?"
Anton didn't speak until Charley sat down. He knew that young people at this age were prone to creating clever jokes, so he didn't fall for this guy's story. He waited to know why he wanted to meet.
Once Charley sat down, he placed the folder on the table, and, looking around to make sure no one was watching, he whispered, "My neighbor Jerry is a damn vampire. He killed my friend Ed, whom you knew, so I think I'm next, and I need your help."
Anton calmly nodded, looked at Charley's performance, and was surprised that apparently he wasn't dying. "You're mistaken. Ed and I don't know each other. I was looking for him because our data found that your friend's IP had been searching for very suspicious things. So while we investigated a case, Ed was the one who came closest to exactly knowing who the culprit is."
Anton's words were straightforward, something Charley didn't expect. Before he could say anything, Anton pointed out, "But if you can prove that your neighbor is a vampire, then show me some reliable evidence."
"Are you some kind of detective? You look very young." Charley didn't know who Anton was at that time, so he muttered these words as he took out some pictures.
"How did you get into a vampire's house and still be alive?" Anton lightly mocked as he looked at the photographs, but that smile disappeared from his face when he saw a symbol.
"My friend was absolutely sure it was a vampire. Look at that photograph. If you belong to some department, you could order a search and enter to see for yourself."
Charley didn't know what he was doing. He wanted to unload everything he knew with someone, and when he remembered that he had the business card of someone who was looking for Ed to talk about vampires, he immediately thought it would be a good idea to call him.
Anton, who looked at a photograph of a precious symbol on a totem with two huge wings and a crown, knew it was a kind of vampire that had been one of the most wanted to be killed. These vampires are tribal by nature; they usually create the largest vampire armies. To eliminate these creatures, it can only be done during the day when humans have the advantage.
Facing them at night is madness, so Anton knew he had to act immediately and stood up. "Where are you going?" Charley knew that Anton possibly walked away because he didn't believe him.
"You're coming with me. Take me to the house where that vampire is." Anton left the money for what he had consumed on the table and quickly headed to his car.
