Chapter 40 - A topic I need to focus on

Anton looked at the scene behind Officer Derek with a certain incredulity and asked, "Why do you say that?"

Upon hearing Anton's curious question, Officer Derek raised his head and looked at the crowd gathered around. There was a group of young people taking photos, and he shook his head upon seeing them. "What we know is that two gang members from a troublesome group died in the house of a recently deceased elderly man... One was shot in the head, and another died from chest shots."

"Sounds very dangerous..." Anton furrowed his brows slightly because this was more than he expected.

Derek sighed and said, "It's not that bad; surely one of these idiots owed money to someone, and that guy collected their lives. It's quite common in the city, but it's rarer here because deaths like these draw more attention."

Upon hearing this, Anton exhaled a sigh of relief. Even though he didn't know who had been killed, it was obvious that they were deeply involved in the criminal world. Their deaths could cause many future problems that would stir the movements in these streets, so he needed to stop what was happening before it became more significant.

The shots must have been very precise to kill two people in the same place. But it was obvious that those who cared about the lives of these gang members were now aware of their deaths.

When a hornet's nest is disturbed, everyone panics, becoming more aggressive and cruel than ever. This would make things more complicated for whoever did this. But for some reason, Anton believed that Old Smith did this, so he wanted to imagine where he could be now.

"It seems that Old Smith has started his hunt. I must stop him before things get even more complicated."

When Anton thought about this, he heard the following words from Officer Derek: "Although that gang is insignificant, the boss behind that criminal group is from the Tarasov mafia, which has a lot of influence in the city... Being the dogs of that mafia, things will get very complicated for us even as police, who are just pawns."

Now that the gangs that are practically distributors for the Tarasov family have been attacked, they will do everything possible to locate the one who killed them. "The streets will become even more dangerous; everyone has understood this, so it would be better for Priest Anton to also take care."

Due to the deaths of two members of a distributing gang today, the Tarasov mafia will do everything possible to find out who attacked them.

"The Tarasov mafia..." Upon hearing the name of this mafia, Anton's eyes darkened because he knew exactly who would get involved in this problem.

Officer Derek didn't notice the changes in Anton's face and continued explaining, "You know about the codes that exist to maintain the world's order, so you should be aware that things will get very ugly around here. Those bastards won't care that you're a priest."

Anton smiled slightly and nodded as if he had understood the true message behind those words. "Then that's what I'll do, Officer Derek. Thank you for your good advice."

Officer Derek nodded and said seriously, "You're welcome, Priest Anton. I don't want to see my wife sad to know that a good priest has left us in this world full of evil. Weekends are the only days when I can relax, so stay safe."

Anton smiled upon hearing these words; over time, the people in this place have taken a certain liking to him, so personally, he appreciated it a lot.

"Officer Parker! Officer Parker!"

Anton remained silent about what he wanted to say after learning that they were looking for the police officer he was talking to.

"My superior is calling me; he must be very nervous too. See you later, Priest Anton!" Officer Derek looked back, and after shouting that he was on his way, he left. But in the world he was about to enter, he didn't forget to give the same advice again. "Priest Anton, remember, it would be better not to pass through these places in the future."

"I'll do that..."

Looking at Officer Derek entering the house where the crime had been committed, Anton's expression remained unchanged, and he looked at the crowd on the right side of the car. Like Officer Derek, he also saw the group of young people. The only difference was that he saw some people that Old Smith had met that same day they first talked.

"And I wanted to distance myself from everything related to John Wick. Who would have thought that the Tarasov mafia would be involved in all these problems?" Anton sighed, entered the car, and pressed the accelerator, driving towards where Old Smith really lived, feeling a bit more relieved knowing that things could be much more complicated.

After all, from what he had seen and if he was correct, Old Smith wasn't just a frail old man with mobility issues. He still had the strength to kill several people, so he assumed that his hunt would either continue or he would return home. With this in mind, Anton quickly drove to the ground floor of Old Smith's house.

Overall, security here is much better than in the place where the crimes were committed. But surprisingly, there were no lights on in Old Smith's house. Despite this, Anton decided to get out of the car, walk to the door, and ring the doorbell beside it. The bell rang, but there was no response from inside.

"Where has Old Smith gone? Is he not coming home all night?"

After pressing it again, there was still no response. Anton had no choice but to return to the car, take out a pencil and paper, write a message, put it in an envelope, and then slide it into the gap in the door.

He could only go so far. He had no information at the moment. If he wanted to find Old Smith, he would need to at least perform some magic.

Anton looked at the house, got back into the car, and slowly drove away from the place.

The problems were related to the Tarasov mafia; Old Smith wanted to take justice from a gang related to a very powerful mafia family, so he should be prepared. Knowing that things were more complicated, he had to take things more seriously.

However, what Anton didn't know was that the Old Smith he was looking for had silently arrived at the alley in front of a bar, stuck his hands in his pockets, and kept his eyes fixed on the bar door.

In the old man's eyes, there weren't many people outside the bar at that moment.

Old Smith slightly moved his body, then stopped when his breathing started to quicken.

At that moment, a young man who was even thinner than those he had killed before came out of the bar door, swaying from side to side.

"That's the leader of the gang tormenting the community around here. Santiago should be his name." Old Smith thought as he watched his target.

About ten meters away, in front of him, the man named Santiago had the highest status because the attitudes of the bastards around him were obviously submissive.

The important thing is that this guy is responsible for drug distribution.

With his discreet identity as an old man, he had been following this guy for a long time without realizing it until he finally caught him.

According to common sense, Santiago must have a safe house where he stores both drugs and money.

Thinking about this, Old Smith looked at Santiago, who was walking towards him, and at this moment, his expression became serious because he was willing to die today to take this criminal down with him.

The two walked through the busier streets and finally reached a relatively remote area with no one around and trash everywhere.

Old Smith kept his target in sight and observed the surrounding environment. According to his past experience, he knew he would reach his destination. Indeed, just as he thought, the target in front of him suddenly entered an alley.

Old Smith grabbed the handle of the pistol hidden in his pocket and quickly followed.

As soon as he reached the alley wall, he saw his target walking towards a small building on the right. The door closed before he could catch up.

"So it should be this place..." Looking at the small, single-story building, Old Smith took a few breaths to suppress the oppression in his chest and walked slowly towards the alley.

As the distance became closer, Old Smith pursed his lips and thought of something. He took out the pistol from his pocket and gently threw it under the wall on the right side of the alley, then walked towards the closed iron door of the building.

Until he reached the door, Old Smith took a deep breath unconsciously, then reached out and knocked on the iron door, remaining silent in place.

After a few seconds, there was a sudden movement inside. Old Smith could hear some clicks inside the iron door, and then a small window appeared in the iron door, revealing the face of a person.

That was Santiago, who had just entered; he seemed very cautious. He saw Old Smith's face and furrowed his brows. "Old man, what are you looking for in this place?"
