Chapter 36 - Ready to Visit the Police Station!

Returning to the driver's seat, Ray glanced at the gas station located by Jarvis, about 15 kilometers away.

Looking outside, unknowingly, they had left the Huarong District and officially entered the Seaside District.

The infection was severe here as well, with survivors hiding in their homes. The appearance of the armored vehicle had them peering out of their windows, and Ray also spotted zombies hiding in the shadows.

"Hehe... hoho..."

The appearance of the armored vehicle caused many zombies to roar and leave the shadows, but Ray drove so fast that these zombies were left far behind before they could gather.

"Um..."

Just then, a murmuring voice came from the back of the vehicle.

Liu Yuqing, lying on the bed, rubbed her sleepy eyes, looking around in confusion.

Realizing she was actually lying on a bed, Liu Yuqing suddenly woke up, sitting up quickly. However, she soon relaxed upon noticing Ray's figure at the driver's seat.

At the same time, she noticed her clothes had slipped to one side at some point.

She was exposed!

Thinking back, it must have been Ray who carried her to the bed, her face instantly flushed red. She hurriedly adjusted her clothes, automatically ignoring why the interior of the vehicle had become larger and why there was an additional bed.

It wasn't until she had fixed her clothes, got off the bed, and came to the passenger seat that she noticed the change, "Could it be that he switched cars while I was asleep?"

"Are you okay?"

Driving the armored vehicle and preparing to head to the gas station ahead, Ray glanced at her and noticed the expression on her face, seeing her confusion but didn't explain.

Liu Yuqing was still frightened by the previous explosion of the tanker truck, but fortunately, apart from being unconscious for a while, she didn't feel unwell upon waking.

Liu Yuqing shook her head slightly, "No, it's nothing."

"That's good," Ray nodded. "You rest a bit more; we might need to fight soon."

"Fight?"

Seeing Ray had no intention of explaining why the armored vehicle had changed so much, she curbed her curiosity and confusion, not asking further. However, she didn't quite understand what Ray meant by needing to fight. Wasn't the plan to go to the Hilton Hotel near the cross-river bridge and rest there for the night?

She was aware of the trip to Donghai City, as there was nothing secretive about it, but why the sudden need to fight?

Ray, noticing her confusion, smiled slightly, "Yeah, I'm planning to raid a police station!"

"Raid a police station?"

Liu Yuqing's eyes widened in shock, but then she understood his intention, "You mean you want to get some real firearms?"

In these times, having firearms definitely offered an advantage!

She had seen the power of the heavy nail gun, comparable to a light sniper rifle, before.

But a nail gun was still just a nail gun, surely not as useful as real firearms, nor as intimidating.

"Exactly, but there are three evolved zombies around the police station. We need to prepare before we go," Ray briefly explained his plan.

The rest of the journey was uneventful, though they took a detour, making a trip that should have taken just over ten minutes last more than half an hour. The gas station Jarvis had located finally came into view.

This gas station was much smaller than the one in the coastal area, but the surrounding congestion of abandoned vehicles was no less severe. The ground was littered with countless remnants and severed limbs, as this road was one of the main routes to the cross-river bridge.

If Jarvis hadn't informed him that this gas station still had fuel, Ray would have found it hard to believe given the scene before him.

"Beep—"

Upon reaching the gas station, Ray didn't stop. Like before, he drove around a few times, honking the horn to draw out all the surrounding zombies.

Over seventy zombies, men and women, old and young, all covered in dried blood, and some even starting to rot, converged from all directions. They roared, continuously banging on the armored vehicle's doors and windows, with some even climbing onto the hood.

It was truly horrifying!

Handing over the driving to Jarvis, Ray opened the sunroof, took out a medium-range nail gun, and began swiftly shooting the zombies.

Liu Yuqing, wielding a watermelon knife, stabbed through the heads of zombies through the gaps in the windows.

Five minutes later!

The two of them had successfully dealt with all the zombies.

"This feeling is really not good..."

Liu Yuqing retracted her watermelon knife, her complexion slightly pale. This was her first time experiencing the feeling of facing zombies up close.

"You'll get used to it eventually!"

After placing the nail gun aside, Ray took back control of the vehicle, drove through the surrounding wrecked cars into the gas station, and parked.

"You go get the staff card to refuel the armored vehicle; I'll check the convenience store and bring some portable fuel cans."

"Understood!"

Liu Yuqing responded and opened the door. Both she and Ray got out of the car, immediately hit by a strong stench of decay that filled their nostrils.

Only then did they notice the limbs and remnants scattered around, which had started to decompose and emit a foul smell in just over a day.

"Is it because of the summer?"

Ray frowned, gradually getting used to the stench.

"It must be. At 30 degrees, it only takes more than three hours for things to start smelling. Although it hasn't been that warm these past few days, it's not much cooler," Liu Yuqing said, nodding while trying to bear the discomfort brought.

"Let's get moving, regardless."

Ray withdrew his gaze, signaled to Liu Yuqing, and walked towards the convenience store alone.

"Okay."

Liu Yuqing responded and headed towards a few gas station employees lying on the ground nearby, intending to search their bodies for a staff card.

Like those rotting corpses, the bodies of these employees were also heavily decomposed, with maggots wriggling in their eye sockets and stomachs.

Sigh...

Taking a deep breath and suppressing the strong urge to vomit, Liu Yuqing scanned their bodies and eventually found the staff card on the chest of one employee.

The employee's body was extensively decomposed, with maggots crawling all over. If it had been the Liu Yuqing of the past, she would have run away in fear, but now, she pursed her lips, directly used the watermelon knife to pick out the staff card, and then wrapped it in cloth to pick it up.
