Chapter 2 - She has to be wrong

How did the meeting go? did you get the contract?" I asked.

Ric's an architect. He has worked under three firms in the last five years and finally started his own early this year. He has alot of workload since his firm consists of only two workers, that is Ric and his secretary. He has been doing great and I am very proud of what he has accomplished in less than a year.

" Not yet, but I don't mind loosing this client. I can't lower my rates for this. They can try others. I wish them luck, but i know they love my work" he responded. (Oh how I wish I was that decisive)

"So confident are we. I must say I like how decisive you are. Wish that could rub off me a little."

"And that's why you have me Bee. I'll help you with any decision you have to make" he grinned

"Uhhhhuhhh, that's so sweet but I must say you spoil her a lot Ric" Laney said appearing from her bedroom "that's why she can't do a thing without you" she adds.

"That's the goal you know" he winked at me. I laugh.

" You were supposed to be out Lay. What brought you back. Didn't even notice you did." I said

" How will you, when your mind is on the new book you are obsessed with. I came in with Ric. " she said walking back to her room with a bottle of soda and a pack of chips in her hands. "Will be busy" she continued " Try to keep your voices down, I've got work to do".

"We'll try" Ric answered.

"How are you feeling today, better?" he asked

"Yh, I slept enough. Though still a bit tired."

"That's good" he said sounding as if he wanted to say more but decides against it. He opened his mouth to say something then closes it. He looked conflicted. ( and cute I must say)

"So how did the date go" he finally asked suddenly looking serious. "didn't get to ask yesterday because you were tired".

" Went well, me being tired from work helped, since I had to leave earlier than he wanted".

" I don't know why you agreed to go in the first place" he said sounding weird.

"Ooo, don't go there Ric, not again" I said

He has always had something against Paul. Ric hardly dislikes a person but he clearly has no problem letting me know how much he hates Paul. Maybe hate is too strong a word to use but he doesn't like him. I'm not a fan of Paul either but I just feel avoiding him would be rude and he kind of tricked me into having that dinner with him. He didn't leave a way out for me.

"And it wasn't a date" I said, "it was just dinner".

"Same thing to me" he said grunting.

"What's it with you and Paul. Why do you hate him so much?"

"I don't hate him. I just don't think he's good for you"

"I never said he was"

"Then just tell him that, that way he'll stop bothering you"

"I don't mind, I've got this. Don't worry"

"But I do mind" he said abruptly and that ticks me off.

"And I believe it's none of your business. It's my life not yours. My choice, not yours" I shouted. (Ughh, why did he have to annoy me. Now I can't take that back)

I turn to face him and he's looking straight at me, eyes wide. Clearly stunned. I bite my lips not knowing what to say, then I decide to say nothing. He says nothing too. I know I should say sorry but I don't. I always find it hard saying sorry, especially to him. But in my defense it's clearly my life not his. So I just shrugged.

"That's harsh Bee" Lay said appearing from nowhere. ( Ugh, can't she just let me be ).

She strides past us. The apartment silent so you could hear a pin drop. None of us say a word. Lay gives me a 'you are terrible' kind of look as she steps out of the kitchen heading back to her room. Her footsteps too loud against the floor. The silence stretches for minutes until Ric stands to his feet moving away from the couch where I was lying down. A look I've never seen before crosses his face.

"I'll just go. I've got work to do" he said quietly.

"Later Bee" he adds walking past me heading straight to the door without looking back. I know I messed up, but I remain stubborn.

"And I'll say it again Bee. He obviously likes you" Lay said appearing from her room (great, she really is creepy).

" As a friend, Yes" I said.

"It's more than that. I can't believe you don't see it" she said.

"There's nothing to see Lay. You know it." she just shrugged.

She's annoying the hell out of me right now. I get up from the couch, lifting my book and heading to my room leaving her standing there in the living room. I immediately get under the blanket drawing it up to my chest wishing I'd just fall asleep but that's the last thing my mind obviously wants. Lay's words keep ringing in my head. She's made a habit of saying that recently and I try as much as possible to let her know she's wrong. I unfortunately cannot deny the fact that I panick whenever she says that. She's wrong. She just has to be wrong.
