Chapter 1 - Hero of Synthesia

In this world, magic and monsters exist. This world's fate was already set from the very beginning, which was destruction.

This world was named "Synthesia".

Synthesia was meant to be completely erased from existence, to be disintegrated to the very depths of the endless void of multiple worlds that met the same fate.

But only the darkest of the dark, can a radiant light be born.

Kim Si-woo, the protagonist, was the only person in this world to change it's destructive fate.

Despite the people ridiculing him, his tragic past, and worthless powers, he miraculously pushed his way through success.

Because the goddess of that very world, Astraea, gifted him powers that will make him change this world's set fate.

But, you may ask, how do I know this?

It's because this world isn't even real. It's a fictional world inside a game.

A game known as "Hero of Synthesia", and I'm one of the players that play this game.

In an office, a young 19-year old worker gets screamed on by his boss, with malicious intent and rage.

"Hey, ######, why haven't you prepared the documents for the interview?!"

I'm getting screamed at again..

These were the thoughts of the 19-year old working student, his face devoid of emotions, as if you were looking at the void itself. His coworkers simply stared, with a pitiful look on their faces.

After a few moments of silence, his boss geared himself up to divert his attention to another coworker that made a mistake.

While this was happening, I walk back to my workspace with azure eyes accompanied by blackish eyebags, a sleep-deprived look, and messy black obsidian-like hair with a hint of navy.

My hands were typing on my keyboard by instinct, basically living in the same moment every single day, just like listening music that was on repeat.

As I finally get to finish my work, I didn't realize that midnight had already came, and the thought of experiencing this very routine tomorrow yet again just makes me depressed.

I go out of my office and standing still in the entrance with numerous thoughts on my mind.

Ah.. Work tomorrow again.

To explain the state I am in right now, let's go back to 1 year ago.

I walk inside the office for the first time, with high expectations fill my mind that this was a supporting company, a company that actually cared for their employees.

"My name is Jinchul Baek, please take care of me!"

My eyes filled to the brim with excitement, having thoughts like "I'm gonna work with big stars!", and "Maybe I'm going to contribute in advertisements!".

My boss, Naruhito Hideyoshi, a japanese 42-year old man, led me to my workplace, which then I followed, and there I worked for the first time.

I worked, worked, and worked more, pulling an all-nighter on my first day of work.

There I found out how this company was abusive, a black company.

6 months in..

I've pulled several all-nighters, and I barely get any sleep. My sleep probably only lasts for about 30 minutes to an hour.

"Hey, Jinchul! Why haven't you done the script-writing yet?!"

Huh? What script-writing? Wasn't that my coworker's responsibility?

At some point, my coworkers began to take advantage of me, by passing work on to me without my consent. But, I couldn't deny it since I was a warm-hearted person back then.

But only that point was where I found my light.

"Hero of Synthesia".

It was a random game I found through an advertisement on my television.

It was just a simple curiosity back then, but now, it has turned into a daily routine to play this game.

I knew everything. Down to the small details and easter eggs, its alternative endings, backstories, and lore of this game.

Back to the present.

After a tiring day of work, I gathered all of my strength to walk to my local convenience store, at this point, I was extremely hungry. So my mind was focused in getting food for the night, resulting in just to accidentally walk on the street when the traffic light was brilliant red, and ultimately led to my death by getting hit by a car.

Crash..

My body ragdolled as the knockback from the crash sends me flying.

Blood came out of my mouth, and my ribcage was crushed. It was over for me.

"Park!"

Huh..? Someone's calling me? Wait.. That's not my name.

"Park Jinsung!"

I wake up from a scream of an unfamiliar woman named Park Chae-Young, analyzing my surroundings, I found myself in an unfamiliar room.

Then, memories of this body came crashing on my mind so suddenly. Similar to a giant wave, this procedure gave me a headache in response.

"Hey Jin, you should prepare to go to the academy."

When I heard this, it gave me a state of confusion.

"Huh? What academy?" I respond.

"Dummy, You forgot already! You were meant to go to Synthesia Academy today. Today is the opening ceremony."

What..? Wasn't Synthesia Academy inside of the game of "Hero of Synthesia"?

But.. If I'm inside of the game, which character am I?

Huh?

Who the fuck is Park Jinsung?

This guy has never appeared in the main story, let alone be noticed or mentioned.

He's one of those background characters. Characters that fill in the audience seat.

My mind figures something out when I collected this new information.

I'm getting ready for school once more, and even though I do not know what to wear, my instincts and habits take over and do it for me.

I probably inherited this body's habits and personality as well.

As I was finally ready to go to school, I head out of Park Jinsung's house and embraced the breathtaking scenery of a ginormous floating island with a whopping thirty-million square meters, which was the entirety of Synthesia.

Just then, a blue screen popped out of nowhere at the center of my eyesight, which caught me off guard and made me flinch.

Huh..? Status Window? What's this?
