Knock, knock!
A soft sound of knocking caused Alexandra to look at the door nervously. She granted entry and the young man from this morning came in, smiling at her.
She awkwardly smiled back and watched the man approached her, worry in his eyes. Looking at him like this made her feel much more worse, as if she's a scary beast.
"How're you feeling Alex?" Benjamin asked.
"I'm alright." Alexandra said.
The young man was looking for a place to sit and was uncertain if he could sit on her bed. Undecided, he remained standing.
Alexandra found it amusing to see this man appeared flustered like this. He's so handsome. he must have had plenty of girlfriends before. Why is he acting so awkward with me? Alexandra got out of the bed and gestured at the sitting area in the room.
When both of them were seated, Benjamin immediately said,
"I'm sorry about this morning. I fell asleep while watching you last night. It was hot in the middle of the night and I took off my shirt, I didn't think you'd wake up to find me like that. I'm really sorry Alex."
Alexandra suddenly remembered the scene from this morning and she felt her face becoming hot. She cleared her throat and decided to let it go. She nodded at him and said, "My dad told me you're a prince. Do I need to bow or curtsy or do something? Please let me know."
"No, no, you're my fiancée. There's no need for formality." Benjamin quickly stopped her.
"So, we're really engaged? It's all so surreal to me." Alexandra still felt doubtful of the whole thing. Something important like this, how could she not remember a thing?
"Yes, my family proposed to your father and he agreed." Benjamin said confidently.
Alexandra looked at this man, and could see sincerity in his eyes. He looked so serious about it.
"Do you have any objection?" Benjamin asked her.
"What? No, I don't. I mean, if my father has decided, it will be the best choice for me." Alexandra was suddenly caught off guard.
"Alex, I know all this must be too much for you to process suddenly. But, I really like you very much. Will you try to accept me?" Benjamin asked, while holding her hands.
Alexandra looked at the hands holding hers and she initially wanted to pull her hands away, but he was holding them so tight and plus, he had this pitiful puppy eyed look, she really had no heart to hurt him.
"To be frank, I really has no experience whatsoever when it comes to relationships. I've never had a boyfriend before. All I know is study. I'm such a boring person too. Are you sure you want to marry someone like me? I'm sure you could find better women than me." Alexandra decided to lay all her cards to this man. He might have been misled about who she really is.
Unexpectedly, Benjamin laughed out loud after hearing this. Puzzled, Alexandra blurted out, "What's wrong? I'm really not joking, it's the truth."
Benjamin's laughter subsided and he smiled while replying to her, "I know who you really are. You're far from being a boring person. As to not having any boyfriend before, that's what I like about you the most."
With that, Benjamin leaned closer and whispered in Alexandra's ears, causing her to swallow her saliva, "Since you like to study, I can teach you everything you need to know about relationships. You'll be my only student in this lifetime."
Benjamin's words carried a deep meaning, and Alexandra instantly understood it. 'In this lifetime...' She smiled and slowly nodded her head.
Unexpectedly, Benjamin kissed her cheek and moved away. Alexandra stared at him, while one hand went up to cover her cheek.
"I'm allowed to kiss you, you know. You can kiss me too, anytime you want." Benjamin proudly declared.
"Alright. So tell me about yourself. You seem to know a lot about me, but I'd really like to know about you too." Alexandra said, trying to change the subject.
Benjamin and Alexandra spent the whole day together, sharing details about each other. The more Alexandra learned about Benjamin, the more intrigued she became. This guy is super talented! He knows martial arts too! How awesome! The best part was, like her, he didn't have any girlfriends before too. But he seemed to know a lot about matters concerning relationships. Probably he learned from his older brother.' Alexandra sighed. Men....
Benjamin had assured her that they would only settle down when she's ready. This news felt like a sun above her head. She had been wanting to address this issue but didn't think Benjamin would say exactly what's on her mind. She really wanted to at least finish her housemanship first, or if not until she has started her specialization. This guy seemed to be kind and understanding as well. Not bad...
When the night approached, Benjamin bade farewell to her and left the manor. He felt somehow elated. She's not rejecting him and seemed to have accepted this relationship. That's a start. He was in a good mood and could sense better days ahead.
"So Alex, what do you think? Did Daddy make the right choice for you?" Sir Dominic asked his daughter.
Alexandra smiled at her father, and slowly nodded her head. Sir Dominic sighed in relief and said, "Alex, there's something that I need to discuss with you."
"What is it Daddy?" Alexandra asked.
"Dr Marcus has advised you to undergo your training at the Maxim Hospital, in Northernlands. He said since your ambition is to be a cardiac surgeon, Maxim Hospital has the best team in that field, headed by Dr Haruto Neo, a renowned cardiac surgeon in the world. He has spoken with Dr Neo and the team is delighted to have you on board. What do you say?" Sir Dominic carefully broached the subject.
"But National was where mom worked, Daddy."
"Yes honey, I understand. But you know something, Mom had always wanted you to pursue your dreams and stayed firmly on that path, didn't she? Don't you think this is something she would want for you too? I'm sure you knew how fussy Dr Neo is. For him to accept you in his team at this early stage means he thinks highly of you too. You would be able to train directly under him, Alex." Sir Dominic once again persuaded.
Alexandra thought about what her father had said and she agreed with him. Mom would want this for her too. However, a thought crossed her mind.
"Daddy, Benjamin is from Northernlands. He doesn't have anything to do with this right?" Alexandra eyed his father suspiciously.
"How could he? It was Dr Marcus who advised me, honey. You can ask Dr Marcus yourself." Sir Dominic laughed.
"Well, alright. But won't you miss me if I move to Northernlands?" Alexandra asked her father curiously.
"I can always visit! Plus, I'm sure Benjamin will take good care of you." Sir Dominic was glad his daughter had agreed.
Alexandra shook her head and father and daughter began to plan about her move to Northernlands.
