Chapter 1 - Prologue

The city, once teeming with life, now lay in ruins. Abandoned cars lined the streets, silent witnesses to the chaos that had unfolded. Blood and flesh scattered like gruesome confetti painted a macabre picture. A group of footsteps echoed through the desolate alleys, the panting of male voices filling the eerie silence. A crackle broke through the air as a radio flickered to life.

The voice on the radio: "You got what we need?"

Edward (Ed), annoyance evident in his voice, answered, "Yeah, we got the damn steel package. What the bloody hell's inside that almost got us killed?"

The voice on the radio evaded the question, warning that if they didn't bring the case, the girls would suffer.

Ed agitated, snapped back, "Lay a finger on the girl, and you'll feel my bloody wrath, you fucking cunts." The radio abruptly cut off.

A man in a battered office suit, clutching a sniper rifle, asked, "What's the plan, Ed?"

Ed turned to Arno, who held the sniper, and replied, "We keep moving. End this madness."

The group moved swiftly through the deserted streets, eyes darting warily to scan for any signs of movement. Ellis, the youngest of the group, couldn't contain his curiosity as he approached Ed with a question about the contents of the mysterious case.

"What do you reckon's in there, Ed?" he asked, his voice tinged with a hint of innocence amidst the grim surroundings.

Ed shook his head, his expression grim. "I don't know, Ellis. And honestly, I don't give a damn right now."

Ellis pondered for a moment before offering his own speculation. "Maybe it's a vaccine?"

Simon, Ed's younger brother, scoffed at the suggestion. "Nah, if it was a vaccine, the whole damn world would know about it by now."

Ellis shrugged, conceding the point. "Well, who knows? Could be some new virus or some shit."

The group pressed on through the ghostly streets, heading towards the ominous point they'd been given. The night held its secrets, and they were about to confront a nightmare they never saw coming.

As the group continued navigating the abandoned streets, their senses heightened, taking in the eerie sights and sounds around them. Ellis, always the observant one, couldn't help but voice his thoughts.

Ellis: "Damn... Look at all this mess. Ya reckon these cars belonged to folks tryin' to escape?"

Edward, his tone somber, replied, "Probably. The city must've descended into chaos when the outbreak hit."

Arno, his intellect shining through even in the midst of danger, added, "It's a tragedy. People caught in a fight for survival, with nowhere to turn."

Simon, ever the empathetic one, sighed, "Makes you wonder how many didn't make it out alive..."

Ellis, his voice tinged with sadness, murmured, "Yeah... Just hope they found some peace in the end."

Their footsteps echoed against the silent buildings, each step a reminder of the fragility of life in this new world. They pressed on, their bond as friends the only thing keeping them going in the face of such devastation.

As they traveled the desolate streets, Edward, showing his military background, suggested taking the narrow alleyway to avoid being spotted, pointing out the route.

Suddenly, Simon's keen senses picked up something from behind. His military instincts kicked in as he turned sharply, scanning the surroundings.

Edward, noticing his brother's sudden reaction, asked with concern, "Everything alright, Simon?"

Simon, slowly backing away, replied, "Something's off, Ed."

Ellis, with his innocent curiosity, tilted his head and asked, "What's off?"

Just then, a sound echoed through the alley, and they turned to find a woman sauntering towards them. She was drenched, her ripped dress clinging to her figure, and her long, wet hair covering her face.

Ellis, expressing concern, approached the woman and asked if she was alright. Arno, ever vigilant, tightened his grip on his sniper rifle, warning Ellis to be careful.

With a playful tone, Ellis reassured Arno, "Don't fret none, what kinda trouble could a harmless woman stir up, anyhow?" He tapped her shoulder, asking what a girl like her was doing in such a place.

As the woman looked up, revealing her gruesome face with a dangling jaw, her lifeless and bloody appearance sent shivers down their spines. She let out a piercing scream that made the group cover their ears.

Edward, struggling to grab his pistol, finally managed to shoot the zombie down. Ellis, shocked, exclaimed, "What in tarnation was that?"

Arno, adjusting his glasses, calmly stated, "That... was a fucking Screamer."

As the group gathered themselves, they heard something approaching. The scream had alerted the entire city, and the zombies in the vicinity began to stir. Large shadows loomed within the city walls, fast and menacing, as the group realized they were in for a fight unlike anything they had encountered before.

As the undead closed in, the group found themselves back to back in the narrow alleyway, shadows of approaching zombies looming over them.

Edward, taking charge as the leader, shouted, "We can't linger here, lads! Onto the streets, pronto!"

Arno, expressing his discomfort, muttered, "I'm not liking this one bit."

Ellis, with his country accent, began to say, "Lawd have mercy, I tell ya, if'n I laid eyes on a flyin' contraption headin' our way, I surely wouldn't be pleas–" His sentence was abruptly cut off by the unexpected arrival of a flying car that landed beside them.

Simon, commenting on the situation, remarked to Ellis, "Well, you bloody jinxed it."

A hulking infected, larger and more menacing than the others, approached, mowing down the normal infected in its path.

Arno, observing the monstrous creature, dryly commented, "Looks like it took an overdose of steroids."

Ellis, glancing at Edward, asked, "Run or shoot?" As the hulking beast continued its relentless advance, Ellis repeated with heightened concern, "Run or shoot!?"

Simon, keeping his cool, answered, "Both!" The group started firing their weapons while sprinting through the desolate streets, the hulking beast in pursuit, a stark reminder that the undead were evolving, becoming more formidable and unpredictable.

The chase was on, adrenaline pumping as they sprinted through the desolate streets, the hulking infected hot on their heels. Bullets flew, echoing in the empty alleyways, as they desperately sought an escape route.

Edward, his voice urgent, shouted over the gunfire, "Keep moving, lads! We ain't done yet!"

Arno, his glasses askew from the intensity of the situation, quipped, "I always wanted a rooftop chase, but this isn't quite what I had in mind."

Ellis, his country accent tinged with panic, yelled, "Faster, y'all! That thing's gainin' on us like a bat outta hell!"

As they reached the alley with the ladder, relief washed over them, but it was short-lived as the hulking infected scaled the wall effortlessly, closing in on them.

Ellis, the quickest to reach the rooftop, shouted down to his teammates, "C'mon, y'all! Get up here!"

Simon, the last to climb, struggled against the onslaught of the infected, his heart pounding in his chest.

Arno, providing cover fire, shouted, "Hurry up, Simon! We ain't got all day!"

With a final burst of effort, Simon made it to the rooftop just as the hulking infected reached the top.

Edward, his voice steady despite the chaos, ordered, "Back up, everyone! Cover fire, now!"

As they rained bullets down on the hulking infected, Edward tossed a grenade with precision, causing it to stumble and fall, buried under a shower of debris.

Ellis, panting from exertion, exclaimed in relief, "I can't believe we made it, y'all!"

Edward, lighting up a cigar with a smirk, declared, "Rejoice later, boys. We ain't outta the woods yet."

He blew out a puff of smoke, standing tall and surveying the scattered zombies below. "Because it's only the beginning."

The group stood side by side, watching as the sun began to rise over the desolate city. Despite the chaos and destruction around them, they knew that as long as they had each other, they could face whatever challenges lay ahead. And with that, they prepared to continue their journey into the unknown, ready to confront whatever horrors awaited them in this new world.
