This has to be a trick question, right?
I stared at Corion trying to gauge his reaction, wondering if he was joking or he was serious, but something about his face told me he was completely serious.
"You want me to get on a horse?" I asked him my voice tinged with disbelief.
Instead of answering, Corion just stared at me with that maddening calm of his, like he could will me into compliance with silence alone.
"Oh wow." I breathed out trying to calm my best as I approached the beautiful brown mare. She was beautiful, tall and strong. I could feel her powerful muscles rippling under her glossy coat as she shifted slightly at my approach.
A smile formed on my face as I grabbed the reins from Corion who was watching me. The horse was beautiful, no doubt about that but there was also the fact that it symbolizes something else. Freedom. This is what this moment symbolized. This was my one chance to be able to get away from it all. Corion may be fast but there is no way he can beat me on a horse, not when I've learnt how to cover my tracks for years.
"If that smile means what you are thinking then I will tell you now not to waste your energy." Corion suddenly said, his tone dull and flat.
I turned only to find him hoisting himself up on his horse. Putting on what I hoped was an innocent look, I smiled up at him. "I have no idea what you mean your highness."
"Sure you don't." Corion said, arching a brow up at me, "But just to let you know, the horse is spelled to go only in the direction I want it to go, nowhere else."
My smile faltered, "Well shit!" I cursed not even bothering to hide my frustration any longer.
Corion chuckled, clearly amused by my reaction. His laughter grated on my nerves and I turned to glare at him, not finding any of the situation funny. "Mind telling me what is so funny?"
"You." Corion replied me smoothly.
I narrowed my eyes at him as I let out a forced laugh, "Glad you find me amusing your royal assness." I retorted, satisfied when the jab had its intended effect.
Corion's gaze darkened slightly, but the faint smirk remained on his lips. Satisfied, I mounted the horse, my heart heavy with disappointment. The freedom I had envisioned felt further away now than ever.
Gripping the reins of the horse, I turned to look at him. "Mind telling me where we are going at least?"
"Why don't you follow me and find out?" He answered, his tone leaving no room for argument. Without waiting for a response, he urged his horse forward leaving me with no choice than to follow.
Arrogant bastard! I thought to myself but still urged my horse to move forward.
The mare trotted forward obediently, following closely after Corion's dark horse. We rode through the forest which seemed to unfold around us. Dappled sunlight danced around us, casting fleeting shadows that seemed to whisper secrets of the ancient trees.
I kept my eyes trained on Corion's back the entire time, the dark silhouette of his horse leading the way. My mind raced with series of questions. He still hadn't said anything about where we were we were going and it seems, he was determined to keep it that way. He never even spoke any word and we've been riding for an hour.
If he was not going to say anything then I was determined not to ask him! I thought to myself, biting my bottom lip as I glared at Corion who was leading the way.
"Still not going to tell me where we are going?" I asked him and I know I said I wasn't going to ask but you can't blame a girl for being curious.
Corion didn't answer me, just continued to ride ahead and that made me angry. Determined to get an answer out of him, I tightened my grip on the reins and urged my horse forward. Corion stared straight ahead, not even bothering to acknowledge me as I rode up next to him.
"Could you at least tell me where we are going?" I asked and again no answer.
To be honest, the silent treatment I was getting wasn't even surprising. It's the least I could get from an egocentric, arrogant pompous ass of a prince. I still didn't know where he was taking me and for the life of me, I can't seem to guess where since I wasn't even supposed to be out of the castle walls in the first place.
I would still like to know my purpose out of the castle. My mind came up with various answers. It couldn't be training because there were no weapons with us and I'm positive he didn't bring us out here just for some stroll in the woods, unless he had an evil intent in mind.
Oh gods! I gasped as I turned to look at Corion who turned his head to look at me. Oh gods above, it couldn't be right, don't tell me?
"What the fuck is that look on your face?" Corion asked me, his brows furrowed in annoyance.
Wrinkling my nose in disgust, I glared at him. "You fucking pervert, did you bring me in the woods to rape me?"
If I thought Corion looked annoyed before well he looked pissed now, "Rape you? Me?" He asked as if the thought of it was preposterous, "Out of all the dark twisted things you could think off, you thought of that? For all we know, I might be bringing you out into the woods to kill you and I just might do that since you uttered such nonsense."
With a scoff, I rolled my eyes at him. "Please, if I was worried about you killing me then I wouldn't have agreed to ride with you in the first place."
"So, you trust me with your life but still think I want to rape you?"
A laughter escaped out of me, "Now let us not get ahead of ourselves, all I'm saying it I simply think you are no match for me_" Corion snorted but I continued, glaring at him instead, "Besides what was I supposed to think, you are dragging me into the middle of nowhere and you expect me not to think dark twisted thoughts?"
Corion heaved out an exasperated sigh just as the horse also released a sigh of it's agreeing with its master that I was quite frustrating.
"Just trust me_" I opened my mouth to argue but Corion interrupted me again, "Only for today, please?"
Please? Well now I'm intrigued! "Okay!" which might be the dumbest thing I have to say since we were in the middle of nowhere but since he asked so nicely, I should just agree.
Corion smiled at me before he turned and urged his horse forward. I felt my own lips tug upward in a smile but I followed after Corion. I didn't offer any more arguments as we rode through the forest in comfortable silence. We only stopped for a bit to let the horses drink from the stream and when we want to stretch our legs a bit.
When the sun begin to set, my anxiety then returned. I turned to look at Corion, debating on whether or not to ask him. I know he told me to trust him and he even used the word please, yet my anxiety was starting to get the best of me.
"Fine, you can ask me." Corion says wearily and before I opened my mouth he cut me short, "And don't even try to deny it, you've been staring at me and biting that lips of yours which is infuriating by the way."
"Okay, I wasn't doing any of that, but since you asked, are we there yet?" I asked him, excited to finally hear his answer.
Corion snorted at me in response, before he suddenly got down from the horse. "Why don't you look ahead and tell me?" He asked and I raised my head, brows furrowing in confusion to see what he was talking about.
A small gasp escaped me as I stared straight ahead. Not believing the sight in front of me, I got down from the horse, absentmindedly gripping the reins. "What is this?"
"What does it look like?"
I turned to look at Corion at that, "But why are we here?"
"Just thought it was high time for a visit." Corion answered me with a half shrug, "So you coming?" He asked as he began to walk up the hill where my house was.
