"You have no idea of what you stole do you?" Anya asked cocking her hip as she assessed me with a lazy look in her eyes.
"The ruby, I know that!" I said shooting a glare in her direction.
The man's hold tightened against my grip and I turned to frown at him. "The ruby itself is useless now."
"Well if it's useless then why the fuck am I here?" I asked, "Can't you just let me go?" I whined softly.
The man's gaze turned to look at the runes on my wrist. "This is exactly what we were after, how did you even get it in the first place?"
"What? The runes?" I asked with a sniff, "All I did was just lift it from the box, and then the next thing I knew, these strange markings were around my wrist."
"Hmm, interesting." He replied in a gruff tone.
I yanked my wrist away from his hold and this time he let me. With a sigh, I moved backward, creating space for myself and the two predators in the room, especially the man. For some reason, he scares me more than Anya. She was a deadly creature, but something about this man was unsettling.
"So... I breathed licking my dry lips, "What are you going to do with me?"
Anya released a huff before she walked into the chair and lowered herself into it. "For now, we are to watch you till we get further orders.
"Further orders from who? Corion?"
Anya's brows went up, "So now, we are on a first-name basis eh?"
"Where is he by the way?" I asked folding my arm across my chest.
"Why do you want with him?"
"I just want to talk."
"Talk?" Anya looked at me with amusement. "You mean you want to stab in the chest with a silver dagger dipped in wolfsbane?" Anya sneered at me.
Mv find flashed to the dagger I had twisted in the prince's heart. I wasn't sure I killed him but that wound should have been enough to put him down and it was going to take a few days for him to recover except that wasn't what happened. Last night, he seemed to have recovered pretty quickly and that was very strange.
I drew in a deep breath before I spoke.
"So what? I'm just to stay in this room till the prince decides when will be a good time to come see me?"
"Yup, that's pretty much it!" Anya answered me with a sweet smile.
Rolling my eyes at her, I walked over to go and sit on the bed. Anya and the other guy watched my every move like a hawk as if I was going to stand up and begin to attack them on the spot. I learnt my lesson already and it was a throbbing headache and a black eye, so I wasn't going to do that, well at least not now.
Adjusting myself on the bed, I turned to look at the man who still had his eyes on me. "What's your name?" I asked him.
The man cocked his head at me before he looked away to Anya, "You've got her right? I need to go see what Corion is up to." He stated before walking towards the door.
Well, that was rude! I thought to myself as the man went out of the room without so much as a glance towards me. With a scoff, I turned only to see Anya looking at me with a smirk on her red-painted lips. I eyed her warily, "What is it?"
"Finally, it's just the two of us," Anya whispered licking her fangs with a look of delight on her face. "Just how I like it!"
"You can't kill me!" I blurted out dryly not in the least scared.
Anya paused in her footsteps, "And what makes you so sure?"
"Because from what you just said, it's quite obvious you need me alive. Also, you can't do anything without an order from the prince can you." I stated dryly as I leaned to rest on the bed.
Anya's lips stretched into a grin, "Quite the smartass are you not?"
"I just try my best." I retorted.
"Yeah, and that's what is going to get you killed if you are not careful," Anya commented with a sigh before she went to stay on the sofa in the opposite room.
An awkward silence stretched between us as we just stared at each other. It was getting harder not to squirm under her intense gaze, so I decided to start a conversation. Get to know her more and maybe find something I could use to protect myself during my stay here. I don't plan on staying long though, I was going to get out of here but in the meantime, I could do with information.
"So you are a vampyre?" I started and Anya quirked a single brow up at me, "I've only heard about your kind and read about you in books?"
"And that's how you knew about the vervain?"
"Yeah, heard from a traveler once and I came across about it in a book."
Anya nodded her head with a small smile on her face, "Guess that makes sense, but you shouldn't believe everything you read."
I leaned forward in my seat. "How does it work though? Is it true you are allergic to the sun? And also garlic, does it burn your skin and why is that it's only a stake from an oak tree that can only kill you?" I asked with a mixture of excitement and curiosity.
Curling her lips into a smirk, Anya cocked her head at me. "I know what you are doing, you must really| think I'm stupid." She said before she stood up and began to approach me.
I felt my heart skip a beat as she began to stroll towards me. I pressed myself back into the bed but before I could do anything else she was in front of me in an instant. Gripping me by the front of my tunic, she yanked me to my feet, smiling again and I felt the fear return to me because this time I was close to her fang.
"It's not going to work though, because we intend to keep you here for a long time, at least till Corion gets what he wants." She said before she dragged me closer, "And when he is done, I'm going to make you wish you were dead." She whispered in my ear causing a chill to race down my spine at her wicked promises.
