"Lydia, I am telling you this is a bad idea." A far away but still loud voice yells. "Marcus come on love I swear I saw the star fall right past these bushes." This time the voice is even closer and noticeable feminine. "That's not the problem. We don't even know what fell. It could be dangerous." Marcus replies. Bushes rustle and branches snap as someone draws closer. A head soon emerges from behind a bush. A female. She looks a bit older but not elderly maybe in her late thirties. She is taller than me perhaps 5' 6" her pitch black hair glistens in the starry light of the night.
Lydia's eyes come to a halt as she sees something in a small ditch. No, not something, someone. Her jaw drops slightly upon the realization of what she sees. Another branch snaps as she takes a step back. "Marcus! You are going to want to see this." Finishing her statement the lady takes a couple carefully measured steps forward. An even larger figure looms into view as it crosses the now partially flatten bush. "What do you see?" He opens his mouth to speak again but he stops when his eyes fall upon the thing in the ditch. Marcus quickly sprints to put himself in front of Lydia. "It could be dangerous. We should leave it." Lydia shoots him a look of distain as the words leave his mouth.
Marcus now more visible in the moonlight is a decidable ugly man. His skin is much to rough and leathery compared to his partner. His face and hands scarred and blistered from a life of hard labor. His eyes explore the body lying only a couple feet away trying to discern any danger. His compatriot briskly strides past the bald old man. Now standing right above the ditch. She can fully see the body inside.
Lydia looked towards Marcus with pleading eyes. "Marcus... we need to bring the child back with us." She turned her head back towards the now unconscious child. Marcus crossed his arms. "Lydia it is almost winter. After the last tax increase we will barely have enough food for ourselves." He paused for a moment taking in the pitiful state of the boy. "Besides even if we spare him our food he will still probably die. Look at him." He began to walk toward his wife putting his hand on her shoulder.
Lydia shook his hand off "Even so. he has a chance to live. We could very well save his life my love." she reached down to pick up the boy. Marcus taken aback but his wife's disagreement raised his voice. "This is not up for debate!" Lydia shot him a look of disgust "He is the same age Sam would have been. I refuse to leave him!" the counter argument left Marcus with saddened face."Fine" he replied "But you will be the only one caring for him. I refuse to give him any of my portions of food too" Lydia nodded at Marcus following his statement."Lets get going then we still have a two hours trek back."
