Chapter 86 - Ch. 86: Disaster

A bright light slashed the body of one of the red—eyed villagers in half. Like a paper cut in half, the severed body fell with blood splattering everywhere—Arthur's clothes; the faces of the villagers; the ground of the field covered with corpses.

Damn, this is endless!

It seems like they can't regenerate... this is an advantage because their numbers can decrease if they are killed one by one.

However, to be honest... this is difficult. They are very, very strong!

Killing one of them requires physical superiority and stamina. While their stamina was... unmistakably, unlimited!

Arthur slashed again at one of the residents who was aggressively charging through the crowd.

The blood coming out of the resident covered his eyes.

Shit! This is bad!

Arthur, who was having trouble reacting immediately put his sword into his inventory and ran towards the inn. He had to inform Furina and Charles about this anomaly!

POV CHARLES

Charles, who was standing by the window—noticing the sudden change in the sunset, immediately squinted. He felt that something was happening out there.

Something very bad!

He headed straight for Furina's room in a hurry.

"Hey, come out quickly!" The door to the room was banged.

Krekk—The door knob opened.

Furina appeared with a sleepy face, she rubbed her eyes then noticed Charles' panic-stricken face.

Furina, who noticed the change immediately gulped.

"Did something happen?" She had unconsciously said that.

Charles was silent for a moment, at a loss for what to say. "I don't know but...." He bit his lip and said, "Night has fallen. Let's prepare to leave here... we don't know what danger lies ahead."

"What about Arthur?"

"Huh? You still care about him?" Charles said in surprise.

Why would this girl even care about a person she had only met a short time ago?

"We'll meet him when we escape. I promised to gather somewhere. So hurry up!"

"Wait a moment." Furina hurriedly closed the door.

There was a noise coming from inside the room.

What the hell was she doing at a time like this!

Before long, she returned in her usual attire.

Woman... woman....

"Let's take a look downstairs. After that we leave this place immediately."

Charles led as he swallowed, leaving Furina who had no time to say yes and reply anything.

Then they walked down the stairs with the sound of wood creaking softly.

"Stop. I'll check first. You just need to follow me when I say it's safe."

Charles was suspicious of the innkeeper because he was also one of the villagers, in other words, something could happen to him when the sun went down.

Better to be careful than to take unnecessary risks!

As Charles descended to the first floor, he felt his body shiver as the temperature slowly dropped. Could it feel hot or cold in the abyss? Charles didn't know. He hadn't felt that way before.

Every step taken caused the wood to creak, taking away from the quiet atmosphere, but on the other hand making it even creepier.

There was no one around... did the owner go out? This was getting suspicious.

I'll bet, the sunset I saw in the window must have caused the owner to get weird.

Not waiting for long, Charles immediately said, "Come down, I don't know if it's safe or not. Prepare yourself for when the inn's doors open."

"Where did the innkeeper go?" asked Furina, looking around the room fearfully.

"If I know, I won't keep quiet. Don't talk yet."

Charles approached the door of the inn. As he took steps, his body shivered even more.

At this moment, the sound of footsteps could be heard behind the door—the sound slowly approached, from small to large and clear. It was the sound of someone approaching!

He hurriedly grabbed something from the inventory—a sword!

Originally, he wanted to use a revolver and shoot it right away. But since he had run out of bullets, he was forced to change that option.

"Open the door. Hurry!"

The door was banged on as someone shouted, someone with a familiar voice. Arthur's voice!

Upon hearing that, Charles immediately opened, closed and locked the door as Arthur entered the room.

"I can finally breathe a little!" Arthur leaned his body against the door.

"What's going on outside?" asked Furina, somewhat frightened at how Arthur was exhausted like he was being chased by something scary.

Arthur chuckled. "Disaster. We should leave this place immediately."

He paused for a moment to take a breath, then he looked around the room. "It's not safe here. Soon this place will also be destroyed and something out there will come in."

"Let me guess," Charles interrupted. "Those people are getting aggressive, aren't they?"

Arthur took a sip from the water bottle he produced from his inventory, then wiped his wet lips with his right hand.

"How did you know?"

"Come on, don't make me look like a stupid person. Everything in this world has a reason."

"You're right. There is indeed a cause ...."

Arthur was silent for a few seconds, his mouth was about to say something but immediately swallowed it back—he was hesitant to tell what happened before the anomaly appeared.

Would they be hostile to him? Of course they would. So why would he tell them? It was the stupidest thing to do, which would have triggered even more conflict.

Charles, who was sensitive to body movements, noticed the change in Arthur's expression.

"Are you doing something?"

He felt Arthur was hiding something—something very suspicious.

"What do you mean?" Arthur was wide-eyed at the sudden question. "Are you accusing me?"

"Masih belum jelas? Biar kukatakan sekali lagi … apa kau baru saja melakukan sesuatu?"

Should I tell them what happened earlier?

Arthur got up from his sitting position while looking around and stopped his gaze on Charles when his body was upright enough.

"Maybe? I'll explain once we get out of this situation." Arthur paused for a moment then added, "Just so you know, we're trapped right now. Our chances of survival are 10%. Wait...

"Where is he?"

"Who do you mean?" asked Furina curiously, though in truth she vaguely knew who Arthur was referring to.

"The innkeeper."

"I don't know... we haven't seen him yet." Furina hurriedly added, "what's noteworthy about him?"

"Nothing. It's just that... something must have happened to her too."

"He might have gone outside," Charles added.

Furina, who realized too late, watched the exhausted Arthur silently. Why is he exhausted?

He must be running away!

But from whom is he running away?

Something... the people... the innkeeper... the night... they always mention those four. Did all of that have something to do with who was chasing Arthur?

At this moment, Furina who was connecting bits and pieces of clues was suddenly wide-eyed. She already understood what was happening!

ZOMBIE! Arthur is being chased by zombies!

They're alive and chasing Arthur all the way here!

That's why he was exhausted!

Was it because of the anomaly—the setting sun, making those residents become aggressive and attack humans? Why only go after humans? Or maybe other living beings were also targeted?

"Then let's not waste time, let's go." Charles led the way to the floor.

"Where to? It's not like the door is over here," Furina said as she pointed at the door Arthur had passed through.

Charles stopped walking, turning around.

"Are you stupid? Of course through the window."
