Chapter 18 - Ch. 18: Intruders

"Any ideas on how to get into the house?" I asked Charlotte, who was busy with her camera.

However, even though I asked her that, she didn't reply. Completely indifferent. Playing with the camera, checking that the lens was fine...

I was really made to feel as if I was talking to myself. It's so annoying when she's already busy with her camera.

"Come on... don't tell me you don't have a way to sneak into the house. We're like thieves already."

Charlotte directed her gaze at me. "We can go through the window."

"And what if the windows are locked?"

Looking up for a moment, Charlotte then turned back to me. "We'll take the balcony if the window is locked."

Sigh. I'm not satisfied with this plan. It's like I'm deliberately walking into a trap even though I realise it's a trap...

After she got the camera right, Charlotte nodded to me. "I'm ready."

Sneaking to the window, I followed behind her.

As I approached with somewhat hasty steps, Charlotte suddenly stopped dead in her tracks, and my body accidentally bumped into her back.

My face turned bright red. The fragrance emanating from her body, like a soft melody, swept my heart with tenderness.

"Why did you suddenly stop?" I whispered. My lips were so close to her ear.

"He's walking to the backyard."

"How did you know?"

I couldn't see her expression. However, I knew her expression was serious.

"His steps," she said. "Now he's gone."

"Hunter."

Charlotte looked back, at me. Narrowing her eyes. "Don't joke around here." Directing her gaze forwards, she took the lead again. "Follow me. We're going in now."

She skulked towards the bottom of the window. Checking whether the window was open or not, she nodded at me. That was the code that the window was unlocked and we could enter through it!

I approached carefully so as not to experience the same thing.

Although I actually wanted to smell that fragrant scent again... considering that I was surrounded by the unpleasant smell of Treasure Hoarders. However, I can't be tempted by my selfishness.

I already have Ei!

Pushing the window slowly, Charlotte entered through it. When her back was out of sight, I entered the same way.

I wasn't as straightforward as Charlotte. Maybe the difference with me was that she was used to doing this.

When I entered the room, my eyes caught two Visions lying on the table. Two Hydro Visions...

"Do these Visions belong to that man?"

Charlotte nodded. "The other one belongs to his daughter."

His daughter? I tilted my head.

"Not his wife's?"

Shaking her head, Charlotte looked at me. "His wife doesn't have Vision."

I believed Charlotte was telling the truth, it wasn't right for me to suspect her. Whether she was lying to me or not. She was a reporter after all.

At first, I suspected that she was deceiving me by telling me nonsense. However, on second thought, why would he deceive me. I'm a nobody here.

After that, Charlotte quickly pointed her camera at the two Visions and pressed the photo button.

Finished taking pictures, I approached Charlotte. "Are we done?" I whispered.

"We need more evidence." She turned to me. "To be effective. You go to the second floor and I'll keep searching around here. Don't worry, the second floor doesn't seem to be as spacious as the first."

Have you ever come here before? How do you know the size of this house?!

I squinted, watching his retreating back, busy looking for evidence.

Sighing, I climbed the stairs to the second floor.

Just like Charlotte said, it was narrow and not as spacious as the first floor. However, there were quite a few doors.

As I walked, I slowed my footsteps, heading for the nearest door. At first, I thought of turning the door knob and going inside. However, that could endanger my life and mentality in case there was something I shouldn't see with human eyes...

The way I see it, the silence and atmosphere is horrifying! I'm like a character in a horror film who will die first!

With that thought, my body shivered instantly.

Peeking through the small hole in the door, I breathed a sigh of relief that there was nothing inside. However, this couldn't be used as evidence if I hadn't gone inside... it wouldn't have satisfied Charlotte.

I turned the doorknob slowly so as not to make the slightest sound. Then, I entered with my right foot first.

Breathing a sigh of relief, I was satisfied that there wasn't a single ghost here.

I'm actually not scared, it's just that because this atmosphere is quite tense hence, this makes me forced to smile.

When I opened the desk drawer, there was a note with messy handwriting. Taking the paper, I read it for a moment. However, I immediately frowned.

I couldn't read it!

Come to think of it I never knew the letters of this world... I folded the paper and closed the drawer again.

Just then, when I turned around and was about to go to Charlotte to report whether this note could be used as evidence, suddenly, I was frozen in place.

I heard the sound of crying from the next room.

A girl's cry... like it was whispering in my ear.

Like a cry for help to no one.

Turning to the wall, I found only white paint blocking the crying figure behind it.

I put the note in my trouser pocket. Stepping out, I immediately stood in front of the wooden door that sealed the room.

Who was crying behind it? His daughter? How did she feel when she saw a stranger entering her house without the permission of her father or mother, forget it... her mother was dead, dude.

I swallowed. I actually didn't dare open this door... However, my hand turned the doorknob.
