Chapter 4 - Ch. 4: Adventurer

I picked up the fallen torch with a shudder. My body spontaneously grabbed the torch at lightning speed before the flames died out and silence fell all around. I didn't. I just needed an excuse... an excuse to get away. I dared not glance at that woman! Amelia. It was a strange feeling, but I felt real fear!

"What's happened to you?" said the young man.

You seriously don't feel the same sense of dread that I do?! How lucky you are, asshole!

I shook my head. "I'm fine, just feeling a little heartburn." My lips curled. "I'll leave first."

As soon as I turned around, I felt my body stiffen. I knew that she, Amelia, was looking at me with her piercing eyes. Which seemed to penetrate the depths of the soul, creating a sense of fear that surrounded me.

My lips trembled slightly. It haunted my mind! My eyebrows dropped as low as they could. I was completely caught up in the awesomeness emanating from his gaze. F*cking devil!

In a panic, I ran away as fast as I could. I was dripping with sweat, but I didn't care anymore. I didn't dare look back. Even though he was no longer staring at my back that was getting further away second by second.

My life was saved. This is the fourth time! I was really grateful that I was still given the chance to live to meet Raiden Shogun later. I must guard my life as best I can.

At the moment I muttered that, every step I took brought me out of the deep cave, I breathed a sigh of relief. I looked up and my eyes widened. the mixture of orange and red colors. dissolved the darkness of the cave I was in. the warm sun touched my still cold skin.

The moment made me feel a warm embrace. The sun that began to duck in the western horizon. Creating a beautiful painting in my memory that is filled with a very heavy death these days.

It reminded me of the situation when I had just come out of my solitude in the house. Having no life. Thinking about it makes me smile meaninglessly. It's so sad.

As if there was light at the end of a dark tunnel, I finally broke free from the restraints! The pressure was so strong. I made up excuses to deceive them. Treasure Hoarders. Their suspicion of me was a huge weight that kept clinging to my shoulders! I'm sick of it, you bastard.

Wearily, I headed to Katheryne's place again. I missed her doll-like beauty. Well, she was a doll.

"Good afternoon, Miss Katheryne."

"Ad astra abyssosque! Welcome to the Adventurers' Guild." Katheryne smiled. "Good afternoon, Mr. Charles."

It was nice that she hadn't forgotten me. I guess my existence is not dust anymore. This made me happy for some reason. I wanted to cry because I was touched.

"I'd like to register as an adventurer." I handed her a bag of mora. "It looks like there are more than 500 mora in this bag. Please count them, miss Katheryne."

"Okay, just a moment," she said as she pulled out the bag.

Katheryne counted for quite a while. And I was bored. My feet kept tapping the floor patiently. Tired of waiting. Until a few minutes later, Katheryne finished counting.

"Here's your change." Katheryne handed the mora bag back to me.

I took it and put it into my inventory. As soon as I removed the mora pouch, Katheryne was not surprised at all. Perhaps she was used to magic. What a strange doll.

At this moment, Katheryne handed me a sheet with an ink pen.

"Please sign this contract, Mr. Charles," she said softly.

I caught a glimpse of her eyes. Took the ink pen from its place and signed the contract. The same signature as mine in the previous world.

"Congratulations on becoming an official adventurer, Mr. Charles."

I tilted my head. Just like that?! I thought it would be more wow. It left me speechless. Really, I was a little disappointed.

"Any quests for beginners?" I asked.

"Cat search."

I squinted. "Another one?"

Katheryne shook her head. "You can come tomorrow."

Today was so unlucky...

With deep disappointment, I turned around with a limp back.

I still had quite a lot of mora left. I decided to pick a meal for dinner today. I hadn't eaten at all since morning.

I held my stomach gently.

After that I'll use my remaining mora to rent a room at the inn in Fontaine town. I don't know anything about this place completely, I've only played Genshin up to the Sumeru map and haven't reached Fontaine yet. So it's necessary to plan to ask the people here.

I exhaled and looked up at the sky. The sun had already fully set.

After asking around, I finally found a room that suited my taste! In the creeping darkness I lay down on a very soft mattress. It smelled good too.

I felt like fatigue would drag me along wherever I went. So I lay contentedly on my back. It's just that I'm uncomfortable with the window. Who the hell opened the window?! The previous tenant of this room?

I woke up and tried to close the curtains to accompany my night, however, suddenly my eyes caught a shadow that slipped from roof to roof.

In the stillness of the night, my body stopped, as if transfixed by the shadow moving under the moonlight. Perhaps it was just a figment of the night, but the tension lingered in the corner of my heart.

The shadow formed a silhouette that resembled a human figure. His steps were light and smooth, as if dancing among the dark shadows.

It had no eyes. Only thick darkness enveloped it.

My eyes continued to stare with raised eyebrows. It was looking at me. The shadowy figure was looking at me! It was looking at me with an invisible gaze.

Although the shadow did not have a pair of eyes, but I felt as if it was enveloping me with a sharp, soul-penetrating gaze.

As I stared at it for a few minutes, the shadow averted its gaze and simply disappeared. It erased itself from this world. It merged with the thicker darkness.
