Chapter 3 - An unforseen circumstance

"Kill them" Tiagon commanded and the dead mass of animated flesh charged with mad frenzy.

"Let's get out of here!" The white-haired adventurer yelled, turned to the other direction and ran through the wall.

The lady however had a hard time processing the death of a comrade, one so dear to her and she stood in a daze.

The undead monster zoomed in front of her and raised its massive fist bringing it down with great force but at just a few inches from her face, its hand suddenly disintegrated.

An amulet with a green stone embedded in its center shone on her neck and a field of transparent green encompassed her and that was her wake-up call.

"That amulet protects against the undead." Tiagon said to himself.

"Boring." He muttered and snapped his fingers.

Immediately after he did, a purple flame burst on their bodies, both the mage and the newly crafted undead.

The mage had no time to wail as she turned into ashes immediately.

The undead on the other hand thrashed around a bit until it too followed suit.

"Now the last."

His feet left the ground and he was taken up in the air. He busted through the ceiling of the cellar, and the floor above.

The last of them still ran hoping to escape.

"No you don't." He held out his right hand, a bow of fire morphed in his hands and a large arrow appeared on his other one.

"And go."

The bow let a light whistle as it swiftly soar through the air, its target unaware of its existence.

The white-haired adventurer suddenly went up in flames as the arrow struck him, he wailed and continued the run as the pain seared through him.

He hadn't taken up to five steps when his body charred away to nothing.

The bow in Tiagon's hand disappeared and he slowly descended.

"They sure made a mess of this place." He spoke as he looked at the crumbled remains of the stone guards.

He looked at his home, his grandiose abode. it had been ridden by plants, a stain on his glory.

He took flight again, up above facing his castle. He shoved forward his hand and a glow emanated from it telling that a spell was in process.

Mere seconds later, the vines and plants length had shrunk over a one-third and they continued to shrink until they disappeared.

"I can't leave this here. I might not come back if I head away, I assume so much has changed."

"Aha!" An idea popped into his head.

He thrust his hand again and this time, it was the castle that shrunk in size, it shrunk greatly until it could be picked up by a human hand.

Tiagon descended and picked it up.

"Glass magic would be handy here. I should have learnt it when I could." He stated.

Reaching a compromise, he pointed at the concrete beneath him and the soil below it pushed back against it, cracking it and exposing itself. It then slowly flowed upwards and swarmed around the castle morphing into a protective spherical shell that encased the castle.

He then took to the air again and zoomed past the woods that hid his existence.

For minutes he continued his flight, going and going until he spotted a little town.

He squinted his eyes below trying to zoom in his vision on the dwellers below.

Creatures of different forms walked about the streets, and little market stalls stood around all occupied with fresh food from around but there was something unwelcomed dwelling amongst them, at least to Tiagon.

There were humans, humans amongst demons, and other minor races, this was uncalled for, unprecedented. Humans socializing with other races in harmony, it wasn't suppose to be so.

'What have I missed?' he thought with a frown.

'Have they forgotten history?!' his frown creased further.

He descended below and as he did, passersby noticed his descent and their attention was all at him.

"Who's that?"

"The Lord's mage?"

"A mage that can fly."

Whispers flew around as Tiagon made his way to them.

He landed on the concrete ground and they could see him properly this time.

The faces of his onlookers changed, their faces creased in, their hands clenched and their eyes focused on him in hatred.

"You're not from around here. What do you want?" A demon man by the little square Tiagon descended asked. He was a demon of lithe appearance, little horns stuck up his small head, he was covered in yellow fur and he had the face of a large cat, certainly not someone one would expect to speak first especially to such a grotesque-looking creature.

'What's this, my kindred condemn me? What's this development?' he looked around and met similar reactions from the creatures around, demon or not demon.

'This is unforgivable.'

In his train of thought, sounds of armour shaking sounded closer and closer breaking Tiagon from his thoughts. The town guards were coming at him.

They stopped a few inches away from him and struck forward their halberds in his front near his neck.

"You're hereby arrested intruder" said the guards who unsurprisingly were demons as well as their heads were unclad exposing their animal heads.

A vein popped on Tiagon's head, this was unthinkable for him. First, they had accepted humans in their midst and now, they dared arrest him.

Truly unforgivable…

"Ahhhhhhh" he sighed and just like that, he disappeared.

He had teleported from their midst.

"Teleportation magic?! Don't tell me he's a powerful mage!" Yelled one of the two guards.

"We have to inform the Lord, he might come back to cause some disturbance." The other replied and the two dispersed away from the scene.

In the woods, amongst the multitudinous trees stood Tiagon. His hand was on his chin as he pondered on what had occurred.

He smirked…

"This is the most interesting outcome."

" Now, where's shapeshifting magic when you need it. I would have to get a grimoire of shapeshifting magic."

He had decided on his next course of action.

"In the meantime, my second body will do."
