I nodded, understanding the responsibility.
The shop assistant handed me a piece of bird food. "Here you go," he said. "Give it a try."
I held out my fingers, offering the food to the parrot. The bird eagerly accepted it with its beak. "Wow!" it said happily as it ate.
As I fed the parrot, its dark eyes gleamed with intelligence. I really liked its green feathers, accented with hints of white around the neck. With each gentle nibble from my fingers, the parrot looked up at me with curious eyes.
I think we were already making a bond.
After a few moments of consideration, I turned to the shop assistant.
"I want to take this parrot," I said.
The shop assistant smiled and nodded, clearly pleased with my choice. "Excellent decision," he said. "Now, let's get everything you need."
We proceeded to the checkout counter, where I purchased the parrot along with a supply of bird food and a spacious cage.
