Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Jack sat up on the SUV's driver seat, watched Christina drive down the block, and then tailed her car.

He had waited outside the casino and, when she left, followed her. He wanted to know where she lived because, one way or another, she was going to play for him. That decision was not up to her.

After a few blocks, Christina stopped near a bridge over the Charles River. A streetlamp was shedding light on her Chevrolet. He parked under a tree and his black car blended in with the darkness. She got out of the vehicle and looked around to make sure she was alone. Then she entered a construction site, picked up a brick, weighed it in her hand, and dropped it into her purse. From the bridge, she threw the handbag and her gun into the river. The water splashed and swallowed her secret.

She got back into her car and drove away. Jack followed her.

Half an hour later, she turned into a narrow street, stopped in front of a one-story house, and went inside.

Jack parked his SUV and waited. An hour passed before the last light in the building was out. He drove up and with his phone, took a few pictures of the house and the car. Then he swiped the screen, and a short video came to life; Christina shot the man, and then the woman.

He paused and, with his fingers, enlarged her face. "Who are you?"
