The tension between the two houses was palpitating. Horus, a man looking like he came out of a cultivation novel, stepped forth. His hand gripping the hilt of a divine sword, its scabbard had golden flower patterns running amok and a lightning dragon piercing through it.
The score count for Evelyn moved as soon as Horus had his feet in the arena. "Finally! I get a chance to fight a mighty Flykra!" Horus laughed maniacally, his hands on his waist while his open mouth pierced the sky.
"Stop with the antics, Horus Fulgur. You're not my match." Evelyn coldly responded and steadily walked toward the uncontrollable Horus. Her golden eyes narrowed and her superior sight sharpened. Horus' personality was irksome, so she wanted to beat his ass so that he had to crawl off the stage.
She then revealed the Motif of the legendary House Flykra, and legends did they appear. Ethereal white wings unfolded from her back, shimmering in the sunlight, as if an angel had descended. Each feather glowed with an heavenly radiance, untainted and pure. It was Angel Wings, an S-Rank Motif that had been passed down for generations in House Flykra.
Evelyn wrapped herself in the pillowy wings and shot up toward the sky, leaving a strong gust of wind behind.
"You think I can't catch you?" Horus maintained an arrogant grin even after such a sight. He then unsheathed his sword that created a loud and hellish ring, but Evelyn didn't seem to be affected at all. "That's more like it. Let's have some real fun!" Horus jumped incredibly high and swung his sword diagonally. Blue lightning burst forth and tore the sky apart.
Evelyn's wings wrapped itself up and created a barrier of white feather while recklessly approaching Horus. Her confidence paid off as lightning bounced of the wings seamlessly without leaving any trace. Evelyn brought forth her right wing with haste, not allowing Horus to counterattack.
Horus couldn't walk or fly in the sky like Evelyn, so he gave his all to block off the weight of the wing. His face distorted and he fell to the ground. The ground cracked from the impact, smoke swarming around Horus. An incredible scene invoked the crowd, and people started cheering harder and chattering like no tomorrow.
"Wow. That's House Flykra for you. Such overwhelming combination of offense and defense."
"The legendary young lady of House Flykra made Horus from House Fulgur look like a joke."
'Controlling the sky is already an absolute advantage, but her wings are also impervious to strong attacks like that? She's incredible.' Luciel had been observing the fight and came to realize how Evelyn might be invincible in this competition. The wings made Evelyn all-round Resonator with flight ability. Scary opponent indeed.
For an opponent like this, jumping up to attack was just reckless. Horus was too drunk on fighting strong opponents it seemed.
"Hey!" The prince walked over to where Luciel stood and smiled. "How about us three team up? Evelyn Flykra is too scary..." Rekal voice became timid as he saw Horus being dragged off the stage. His body constitution seemed quite weak for a swordsman, being incapacitated with just a hard fall.
"No, you go ahead. I'll enter the fray later." Luciel promptly denied.
"Ah... I see. Good luck then." Rekal ran toward Lumine to discuss their strategy. Luciel wanted to see everybody's abilities first before joining. It didn't matter if he came in late because the result wouldn't change.
[Evelyn Flykra - 211]
The score was increasing by the second while Rekal and Lumine were preparing to go on the stage. Rekal carried nothing while Lumine wielded a large scythe, which surprised Luciel a lot. A small frame wielding that large of a scythe... Certainly, the outside world was full of possibilities.
"The two of you will fight me, right?" Evelyn stood before them and asked. She was a prideful person but not arrogant. She knew where to draw the line. Evelyn extended her arm outward, her fingers curled inward as to beckon them. "Come."
Evelyn soared up and dove toward Rekal, who had no weapon, but that was a poor choice. Rekal elegantly performed a simple gesture of a gun just like Kyus did and fired off a wind bullet.
Surprised, Evelyn stopped and blocked it with her wings, but that short time frame gave Lumine an opening, slicing her big scythe at Evelyn's back.
Evelyn tried to slap the attack away but failed, falling to the ground just as hard as Horus did. Her pillowy feathers saved her from the fall, so she stood up easily. She then summoned a storm of feathers from her wings, each of them flew at Rekal and Lumine at breakneck speed.
Rekal was an ordinary Resonator, but his control of Echo Energy was outstanding. He covered himself with hardened energy and shielded himself from the sharp feathers, while Lumine had serious trouble as she swung and rotated her scythe frantically.
Large and small cut started appearing on Lumine's frail body, but she endured, her uniform bloodied. Breathing heavily, Lumine went on the offensive and continued slashing at Evelyn, but Evelyn was very nimble and her wings were as hard as stone. While the situation was better due to Rekal's interference with Evelyn's flying ability, it seemed that the duo was on the losing side.
Rekal was incredible on defense but didn't have much to offer on the offensive side, while Lumine was injured and not in her best condition. Evelyn, on the other hand, was controlling the battlefield. She imbued her fists with Echo Energy to overwhelm Lumine while using her wings to deflect projectiles from Rekal.
Desperate, Lumine charged in without keeping distance, her scythe flourished, but before it could touch Evelyn's skin, the fist of doom touched Lumine's abdomen. "Urgh!" She was sent flying out of the arena, unable to move.
Evelyn turned around and looked at the remaining prey, her eyes truly frightening as it glowed gold. She didn't waste any time and flew towards Rekal with her fist hanging.
"No!" Rekal yelped in fear. His control of energy was truly commendable for someone who just awakened, but it could not do anything against a powerful Motif. He braced himself in terror, clenching his fist, and swung desperately at the monster.
In a split second, their fist clashed intensely. A shockwave burst from the impact, but Rekal was still holding on. Spark of energy flickered around his fist as he pushed with all his strength, but then from the corner of his eye, he saw a white wall closing on him. He had completely forgot about Evelyn's wings!
He frantically brought his arm up and tucked his elbow to cover his body, but the impact was too heavy, as if a tidal wave ran through him. The blow sent Rekal reeling, his body thrown across the arena roughly and unsightly. Evelyn had rendered him immobile, dust forming around his lifeless body.
[Evelyn Flykra - 772]
Evelyn hovered above as her ethereal set of wings extended, casting a shadow across the arena. The crowd was silenced by her performance, her dominance, her undisputed power. That silence then switched to an eruption of awe and fear. The king of the stage was Evelyn.
Evelyn, unphased, lowered herself to the ground, landing gracefully. Her golden gaze unyielding as she looked over the battlefield. She then saw a man with white hair, standing nonchalantly outside the arena. It was one man left, but seeing that man made her nervous for some reason. She couldn't put it into words.
Evelyn approached the man, her wings raised to show authority. "Only you left. Come up the stage." Her voice cold and emotionless.
The man didn't say anything. His eyes pure white, even his pupil crystallized in whiteness. His calm demeanor made Evelyn unsettled. Was it a bluff? She had defeated three representatives easily but did not expect to be nervous in front of someone who hadn't even come out to fight yet.
"Why are you silent? Do you need time to prepare?" Evelyn pushed him slightly. She knew that these types of people wouldn't fall for cheap provocation, so she tried to be as polite as possible while maintaining a competitive edge.
The man named Luciel gave her a daring look. "You sure you don't need some rest?"
Slightly irritated, Evelyn glared at Luciel. "I don't need any."
"Alright." Luciel stepped into the arena.
Evelyn kept an eye on him as he took each step, but suddenly he disappeared into thin air.
"Don't regret it." A voice rung behind her back, unsettling and daunting.
She turned around in an instant and raised her wing into an empty space. Luciel stepped back before it hit him.
'When did he get there?' Evelyn started to sweat. She didn't shed one drop of sweat throughout the entirety of the game, yet his presence alone made her want to run.
Luciel pulled his sword out of a plain scabbard and pointed at Evelyn. His head held high, his posture exuded poise and calmness. "Let's have a go, shall we?"
