Chapter 20 - NAVIGATING THE MARKET

Mei-ling peeped over towards the road and looked from left and right even with chicken feathers still in her hair.

The thugs were gone, now she could leave.

She stepped away from the corner and hurried away.

He caught her arm.

"Where are you going to?" The man asked.

What was wrong with this character?

Was it wrong for her to have saved someone?

To her he wasn't so handsome anymore.

"I'm going about my business." She said. "I am a servant and my master sent me on an errand."

He looked her up and down.

"You don't look like a servant." He said.

Mei-ling suspected that her beauty gave her away.

"And you." He said. "I've met you before."

Her eye's widened.

Had her seen her that night she had saved him?

Li-na had said that he was an imperial guard and that meant that he worked for the ML.

What would happen if the ML knew that she had saved his guard?

Even kissed him!

Worse what if the Imperial guard told the ML that she had been caught in the market and accused of theft.

Mei-ling shook her head. "No, I've never seen you in my life. If I've seen you before then I would have recognized you."

She lied and before he could stop her she jumped away from the corner and ran away.

She didn't stop for once until she hid behind a market stall and looked to see if he was following her.

He wasn't in sight.

Only the market people going on about their usual business.

She adjusted herself and stood at attention.

Then she walked on like a normal person.

She saw the street food and she sniffed them.

She remembered that she had a few coins in her pocket.

Then she went to a meat stall.

"Hey can I get that?" She asked pointing at a stick of meat.

She was given the meat and then she paid.

She turned to look at her meat as she licked her lips.

She was so hungry.

Just as she was about to bite into the meat, someone passing hit her and the meat fell down on the floor.

"What's wrong with you?" She demanded with a gruff face.

When the person who hit her turned around she saw he was a very big and scary man.

He could kill her with one blow.

She smiled and waved at him. "Sorry."

He eyed her and went on his way.

She scowled.

Her body was too weak and useless to do anything.

She checked her pockets and saw that her money had finished.

She went on her way to where she would find the business merchant.

"Where is Business man Bo?" She asked a passerby.

"Just by that corner." The man said. "You would see a red building there. It belongs to him."

She thanked him and went on her way.

Soon she was at the large building.

She stepped in and she saw women all dressed in lovely clothes and heavy makeup.

They sat down close to men and laughed with them.

Some of the men had their hands on their waists.

What was this place?

Then she remembered that business man Bo owned a whore house.

She was in a whore house!
