Adeline raised a brow, annoyed. "I told you that I don't know him."
"But you do know him?"
"Then why don't I remember him?" She asked and shifted her attention to Caesar. "I know my name, I know how it hurt me, so why can't I remember you?"
Caesar was staring at the floor and she watched his hands balled into a tight fist. "You remember the one who hurt you, but not…not the one who loved you?"
The sentence had startled Adeline and for a second, the frown on her face vanished.
"The one…who loved me?"
But Caesar didn't respond. He was exhausted and unsure what to even do at that moment.
Was this some kind of punishment? Why? Wasn't it too cruel? Was heaven really hell-bent on taking the only things he loved, treasured and valued away from him? The only happiness he had ever found? Why couldn't they just let him have her? Why must they try to take her from him?
