The early morning chirping of the birds sounded, a bit of the rays of the sun burning into the room through a small opening in the long parted curtains.
"Caesar!" Adeline jackknifed off the bed all of a sudden, cold beads of sweat pouring down her forehead. Her chest was rising and falling in heavy breathing.
She looked to her right for Caesar, but she was met with disappointment at the sight of the empty space next to her. This made her believe that what happened last night was nothing more than a dream.
Caesar didn't come into the room, he didn't hug her dearly, and he didn't also kiss and comfort her. It was all nothing more than a fleeting dream—something she wanted but couldn't have because the person in that room next to hers wasn't her Caesar, the man she knew.
Drawing a deep breath, Adeline set her foot down on the floor and got up. She walked to the mirror and stood in front of it to stare at her reflection.
