Adeline was all the more confused.
"I-I don't understand. What are you talking about, Caesar?" She was chuckling nervously, unable to comprehend the reason for the question.
Why would he want to make her happy? What had she done in his life to deserve that?
Caesar leaned in closer, his eyes boring into hers. "What can I do so that even if you were to find out anything you wouldn't like, you would still stay with me and not leave me?" His voice was soft and quiet, almost as if he were whispering his words to her.
Adeline swallowed hard, lowering her eyes to gaze at his lips, which were just an inch away from touching hers.
"Caesar, t-there is nothing. I don't understand why you are asking this question." Her heart was thumping right out of her chest, and just like she'd wondered, Caesar could very well hear it.
