Chapter 8 - hidden motives

After a few weeks passed Agatha found a note on a table in her locked room reading 'We have the information you requested, meet us at the same location at midnight tomorrow and do not forget the payment - God's Eye'

This surprised and startled her, as they found impossibly guarded secrets and they effortlessly broke into her room just to leave a simple note

"Just how far can they reach" she thought to herself as she turned around to get ready to leave the next day.

The next day when the night embraced the sleeping city, Agatha sets out to the slums once again, and when she arrives she sees a familiar figure standing in the shadows of an abandoned building

She approaches him, with more confidence in her tone but still a hint of lingering nervosity She says

"Hello, Nememirith, was it?"

"Yes, it indeed was, and greetings to you too Miss Herz, I am glad that our note got delivered, and that you decided to come"

"Of course, that information is very valuable to me, so tell me, what have you found out and how much do you want for it?"

"Straight to the business, alright, the price for the information is about 680 crystals and we found out something that will drastically change this empire and especially the fate of the emperor, so are you willing to pay the price for this knowledge my lady"

Agatha lets out a light sigh as she says "Fine, if it is of such importance I shall pay the price" Then she reaches for a leather pouch hanging by the belt of her cloak, then hands the man a handful of light blue and purple crystal rings, then she takes a step back and says

"Now then please tell me everything you happen to know about the true motive of the elders"

Then as he started to describe all that they found out, Agatha stood there too shocked to even properly react, then her expression slowly turned from shock to anger, The more she listened, the more her anger seeped through the cold, uncaring facade she always wore.

When he finished Agatha took a step back and took a deep breath, slowly calming herself down, as she said to him

"Thank you, that is of great importance, now that our business is concluded I shall take my leave" As she turned around to walk away he said "Pleasure doing business my lady, let fate interweave our destiny once more"

Then he once more disappeared into the darkness of the city, and with that finished, after returning to the palace Agatha decided to act with her new information in hand.

While all this was happening in the shadows of the palace, Victor was more focused on his wish to improve the empire, so he called upon his new assistant, whom he hired only a few days earlier, to lift some of the workload off of Agatha's shoulders

Then in his office arrived a tall older man, with black hair with a tint of grey, wearing glasses in an expensive blue suit, as he came closer to Victor he bowed his head and greeted him

"Greetings Emperor Aratus, how may I be of service to you today" to which Victor replied

"Oh, greetings to you as well Eliot, now could you please call in Elder Firrar for me, there is something I would like to discuss with him"

"I am afraid I am unable to do that as he took unexpected sick leave, so no one was able to contact him for the past few days, I know that he is the only elder you are on good terms with but please stay focused on your work and do not worry, I will send someone to check on him right away"

"Please do, and before you go tell me what opinion the empire holds of me, and what do they need?"

"Well, you were always especially popular amongst the nobility, which did not change and even thou your brother seems to be highly favored now, they are sure to recognize your hard work in time, I am sure of it"

"Thank you, that did make me feel better, now you may go, and please look into the well-being of Elder Firrar"

"Of course Your Majesty, right away" and with that he once again bowed and left the room.

With that Victor continued with his paperwork but after what Eliot said he couldn't help but worry about the elder as he was one of Victor's most trusted advisors and the only elder he genuinely trusted.
