Karna right now was feeling a bit awkward and embarrassed.
"hey Ultear, couldn't you create something with your time magic and carry me"
"why are you embarrassed or something"
"come on now" Karna groaned.
After Karna was wiped out doing the battle with the demon, the exhaustion from the battle had detrimental effects on his body. His magic skills will take days to come back, and his basic physical skills will take at least a day. Right now, he was just like a ragdoll being carried on Ultear's back.
Ultear was feeling a bit guilty while doing this, but she pushed those thoughts back inside and continued enjoying the situation. While Meredy was gritting her teeth seeing how dense Karna was.
"Hey Meredy, how about you, were the travel rough"
"don't speak to me bastard" Meredy coldly replied
"Ha ha ha" I laughed dryly at that. I have no idea why, but Meredy has some kind of issues with me. It started after a few weeks of her joining the guild but no matter what I try she never revealed why she had such cold attitude towards me. Even with my mind palace checked many times, I was not able to find the reason for it.

"Minerva, did we accidently make him dense or something, or is this a natural effect of Isekai?"

The mood was a bit awkward after that interaction with Meredy, so I decided to talk about serious matters now and ask about their mission.
"so how was the trip to Cait Shelter?"
Suddenly they both flinched and then continued walking. Looking at their reaction, chances are they found out the secret of the guild members.
"Karna the truth is when we saw the guild, we found out-"
"that the entire villagers are illusions right" I interrupted Ultear
At that, both of them turned their heads to look at me
"You knew" Ultear was shocked"
I nodded at that and continued
"you guys found out that other than a child and a cat like Happy, all the others do not exist right"
"yes, but we only saw the kid and the cat from a distance" Ultear replied "we were surprised that there were living beings existing there but did not get a chance to interact with them. Do you know what that was"
"wait, did that old man not explain it to you?" I asked a bit surprised
"well, no. the old man did give us the information about what's happening on the island but what his connection with it and the reason for his guild to be filled with illusions were not revealed. He also kept saying about ancient kingdom, but he never revealed the name"

"do you know anything about that" Ultear asked a bit curious. Even Meredy seemed like she wanted to know as she slightly leaned in.
"well, all I can say is that the old man you had met is guarding a weapon so powerful that the only one's who knows the information the council of wizards strongest members, Guys like me who can get certain information and finally people in the deepest network of the underworld"
"then what about the illusions are they part of it or something"
"well, the illusions were created a few years back when the guild was visited by a small blue haired child who lost her mother who was a dragon"
Both Ultear and Meredy stopped at that
"" wait what"" they both exclaimed
"haha you both should look at your faces and yes, the Child Wendy Marvel is the daughter of the sky dragon as well as the sky dragon slayer. Seeing the child alone and in desperate need of a family, the old man used his magic to create living illusions to act as her family"
Both Meredy and Ultear looked horrified at the information.
"you mean to say that the child is living with people that does not even exist, how long does that old man think it will last and what will happen to that child when she finds out that the people that she lived with were not real" Ultear almost shouted out the last few words
"well, we can't completely say that they are not real cause you know the old kingdom that the old man mentioned"
"yeah?"
"well, the illusions you met that day were made based on the residual part of their spirits left there"
"you mean to say that there are spirits that has not passed on in that village, isn't that dangerous" Meredy asked as her magic also has a bit of relation to spirits of the dead
"let's just say that they can never pass on till that secret weapon gets destroyed. But to destroy that, we need to activate it and that is way riskier"
"but still this is messed up for that kid and cat"
"well, I don't know but my guess is sometime soon the chances of the truth coming out to that girl are high"
Ultear narrowed her eyes
"what are you hiding"
"well, its not confirmed but there are chances of something happening with the Baram Alliance are high. There are certain rumours, but they are not concrete enough to be confirmed"
Ultear and Meredy had bit more tensed expression when they heard that
"well let's put that away for now, what do you guys got from that Old man about the island"
Ultear took a deep breath and then told me about it. And from her information, my speculations were right.
In the cannon it was told that the moon drip had released the villagers forms into demons and made them think that they were humans and not demons. A moon drip ritual with the ability to unseal any magic acting like corruption of memory is very low and looked like something the author just put in to end the arc, but the real reason was the opposite.
It seems like the island had been the research site before the kingdom's weapon was created i.e., Nirvana. Though the old guy never revealed what the weapon was to these two. I knew about it from my cannon knowledge.
The moon drip was a prototype of Nirvana that Malfunctioned and turned the entire islanders into demons who were made to forget the fact that they were humans and the moon drip's activation had brought back their memories making them realise their true form was human and not demon.
Th ancient's hidden mistake is torturing the people of the village with a never-ending curse that had kept them trapped in this island.
