[Major Quest: Succeed in the S-Class Test
Reward – Method to Save Layla Heartfilia, Hoverboard + ???
Failure – Death of Layla Heartfilia, No Chance of Becoming S-Class for
the Next 5 Years, and Loss of a Necessary Requirement for the First Wave of War]
Today, I am going to meet Gramps for my long-awaited S-Class test. Laxus had already completed his two years ago, and now it's my turn. Normally, an S-Class test includes a few participants each year, but this year, most of the seniors like Macao and Wakaba had decided to stop trying and remain at their current level. Among the younger generation, I was the only one eligible.
At first, I wasn't taking this exam too seriously since I didn't necessarily need to become S-Class early. I could already handle most things without it. But now that a major quest has appeared, I can't afford to be careless.
My system is constantly changing—must be the work of that asshole—and the fact that this was labeled a major quest is concerning. It's been a long time since I've received anything of this scale.
The good news? It looks like I'll finally be able to save Lucy's mother. I had been racking my brain trying to figure out how to do it since they have no reason to trust me or accept my help. Hopefully, the quest rewards will provide the means to make it possible. Oh, and I'm also getting a hoverboard, which is universally cool.
But there are also two very concerning details.
First is the reward marked as ???. That screams "major plot point." If I want to save the world, I'll probably need it. I just hope it's not too much of a hassle.
Second—and far more important—is the failure consequence that mentions the "First War." As far as I know, the major wars were supposed to be against Zeref's country, and everything else was more like brief one- or two-day skirmishes. But if the quest is explicitly calling something the first war…
That means there are more wars to come. And they might be part of the reason this world was doomed in the first place.
I can already feel the headache forming. Damn it.
Well, the only thing I can do now is complete this quest successfully, which means I must become an S-Class wizard.
I make my way through the forest and finally reach the clearing where Gramps is waiting. As I arrive, he turns toward me and speaks.
"Karna, my boy! You're right on time. Let's begin, shall we?" He called out excitedly.
"Yes, Gramps." I replied while preparing myself.
"Normally, the S-Class test consists of a series of challenges that assess a member's intelligence, resourcefulness, and battle power. But in your case, I already know you can handle the first two with ease." Makarov started speaking.
He stands up and begins to grow in size.
"So, you'll have to impress me with your battle power. But don't think I'll make it easy for you."
A nasty grin spreads across his face. The moment I see it, I know I'm doomed.
"You'll have to fight me without your archery and armor. You're only allowed to use magic that directly enhances your body."
Damn it all!
Right now, I'm fighting against Master as best as I can while following his conditions.
"What's the matter, boy? Getting tired?" He grins.
Damn you, old man!
Gramps has grown to nearly half the size of the guild hall and is trying to swat me down without mercy. I've been dodging using my enchanted boots and strengthening magic, relying on every bit of skill I've honed over the past few years.
But I know dodging won't win me this fight.
I understand the real purpose of this test—it's to force me to develop a new way of fighting if I ever lose access to my usual techniques. This could be invaluable if I ever face an enemy with Memory Magic in the future.
So, while dodging, I start planning a move I once saw on TV in my past life.
Magic isn't solid, liquid, or gas—it behaves differently inside the human body. When stored, it remains stable, but when used, it flows like water.
Imagine a half-empty bottle of water held horizontally and shaken side to side. The water slams forcefully into both ends. My idea is to replicate that effect using magic.
Normally, wizards channel magic, accumulate it, and then release it through a spell. My plan is to skip the accumulation step entirely.
I'll direct the flow of my magic, pushing it backward and forward in precise bursts, then time it perfectly with my punches to generate explosive force.
Of course, this is risky as hell. If my timing is even a few milliseconds off, I'll end up seriously injuring myself. But if I pull it off, I'll be able to land a devastating hit on Gramps.
I start preparing my arm.
Gramps notices from a distance, his eyes widening slightly, but he still moves into attack.
I dodge a few more of his strikes to warm up my magic, then take a deep breath and begin channelling the flow.
I shift it backward, then forward—just like the water in the bottle.
And when the moment is right, I strike with everything I have, shouting:
"POINT BLANK PUNCH!"
A/N- hope you like the rewrite and every 100 powerstone gets extra chapter of Jason.
