Chapter 21 - The Shadow In The Night

Weiyuan and Xiaoyi swapped rotations at night so that she could regain her health first, because she was missing most of it. This way they have the best person awake at all times.

Even then Xiaoyi did still set up the tent so she still gave Weiyuan a small space.

"A woman needs her space away from guys. If you don't like it, become a girl." She said as she slid in her sleeping back.

"Whatever, I'll set up the traps. Sleep well."

He spent the next 30 minutes figuring out how to set up the traps while having no trees to connect it to. He just stacked rocks on the shirt rope to make it stay. Whether the rocks fall or the cans make noise he should notice it. The stars were exceptionally beautiful on the mountain. If Earth could see this every night everyone would make sure to look outside once a night.

The hours ticked by while he slowly recovered. By the time he heard Xiaoyi getting up he still had a while before he was fully recovered. Xiaoyi had much more serious wounds so it would be that much longer for hers to heal.

"I WAS RIGHT!" Xiaoyi said while jumping for joy.

She had a sneaking suspicion that she could be wrong but who cares. She is right and now she is as good as new!

Weiyuan sticks his head in the tent to see Xiaoyi running her finger along her abdomen so see if she had gotten any scars. Her shirt held with her other hand just above her abdomen.

'Not a single scar.'

Weiyuan was stunned. Over the couple weeks Xiaoyi seemed very concerned about showing anything from her knee up past her chest. He assumed there was something she was insecure about, however he couldn't understand what was wrong.

It was hard to see as it was dark but the tent let in a little moon light to lighten the curves of her figure and see everything a little. Her waist was skinnier than her hips, but not unnaturally skinny. Her abdomen had a slight show of abs but not enough to stand out. Her skin was smooth and looked soft.

He blinked twice. Wait, I shouldn't be looking in. Just as he was exiting the shirt covered her waist and seemed to be pulled down exaggeratedly. He pulled his head away and quickly closed the tent.

"You pervert this is why you have a small corner!" She had come and opened the tent.

"I didn't look at you lustfully! I didn't even know you were lifting your shirt. You seemed excited so I wanted to see what it was."

He knew that objecting wouldn't help his case. Nothing he did now would help. Wait he could say he had a fiancé, but it was an arranged marriage by his parents. He didn't know much about her; he's only seen her twice.

"I have a fiancé!"

"Oh, well, you better hope I forgive you by the time we find her." She pouted and came out. "It's your turn to sleep."

"Thank you." He said going inside. She was scary but not as scary as the zombies they had to fight to get out of the dungeon.

Xiaoyi also enjoyed the starry night. She watched and watched, and just before her eyes closed welcoming her to slumber; she saw a shooting star light up the sky.

"Wow, so pretty." She said watching it go across the sky.

As it flew from horizon to horizon it lit up a giant figure in the sky. It had great big wings that casted a shadow across the land. A long massive tail that swayed as it flew. She could see hind legs but didn't see any frontal legs. Then again it was night time and they could hide in the shadows.

It went in the direction they were heading. All the way that the horizon hid its path.

'Maybe it kept going and we won't end up finding it.'

Knowing how they got sucked into a random dungeon their luck was bad. That thing is probably going to be on the ground in our path and before we can run it would have spotted us.

'I will have Weiyuan pick a different direction.'

Soon the sun came up. Instead of Weiyuan waking her up, it was her turn.

She sat down beside his corner with some meat and started placing it on his face. When he didn't wake up to that she started waving a piece right under his nose. That didn't work either.

"Gosh you are so lame. Wake up, it's time to head out."

She shook him a few times to wake him up. They then had a small breakfast. Lastly, they took down all the equipment, packed it up and started heading on their way.

"Guess what I saw last night while you were sleeping?"

She asked playfully.

"A shooting star?"

"Yes and a shadowy figure flying through the sky. It had massive wings that could cut the tops of mountains. A tail so long you couldn't see the end of it. Claws so long they tore up the ground as he flew above the clouds. Horns so large they cut the atmosphere as he moved."

While she did that she acted out all of the things she was describing.

Weiyuan did not find this cute. He was too busy thinking just how small they were. Something so big it was out of grasp forever.

"A dragon?" His eyes were wide in fear. Those are way stronger than zombies. Even if they tried to escape they would not make it.

"Yes, a dragon. I'm kidding on the size though."

"I don't care about the size we are dead if we run into it anyways. What way did it fly?"

"It flew the way we are heading."

Weiyuan immediately turned around and started walking the other way.

"Wait no don't leave, we can just go around it."

She grabbed onto the bag to pull him back so that he couldn't leave her.

"We picked this way, we will go this way. It also went so far the horizon blocked my view. We have a few days before we run into it. For all we know it could have gone back the way you are heading."

She started to pull him away so that they could keep going.

"Alright, fine. Three days this way then we turn slightly left or right."

Weiyuan knew that she considered herself the leader no matter what he said. The dragon could kill them instantly however she could drive him mad. Going crazy would be a worse fate than death.

They continued on their journey through the Rocky Mountains that slowed all of their steps.

At the end of 3 days they released the mountains and went on forever. They also released where the dragon could be. There was a mountain that was not as tall as the others, however it was the only mountain without snow on it. Meaning it was either hotter than the others meaning it's an active volcano, or it had something warming up the mountain like a dragon.

When they saw this they both wanted to go in opposite directions. Weiyuan wanted to go slightly left while Xiaoyi wanted to go slightly right.

"The mountains are the same if we go left or right. So just come left with me."

"I don't know. I'm not feeling too lucky going left."

"How about we flip a coin. What side do you want?"

Weiyuan pulled out a golden coin with some random markings on one side and a monster face on the other.

"Monster face is heads and the other side is tails."

"I want tails because that face will give us bad luck."

She knew both paths could be dangerous. She just hoped he would follow her lead as he almost always has.
