Chapter 28 - Birthday

These few days Kifayat could feel her friends are plotting something behind her back again. They would often gather together to discuss something without her. And whenever she would come, they would stop talking or change the topic.

This time she decided no matter what it is she will never get herself involved in it. She was taught enough lesson by playing the Cinderella drama that her friends were not reliable at critical time. But she was still curious about it. If she knew it in advance she could somehow prepare herself for it.

At Library, when she was discussing about the math paper that the teacher given them to solve. She became distracted thinking about that matter.

"So if we use the newton's law of cooling, it will be easier to know the popu.... Kifayat are you listening?"

"Huh, yes. What did just say?"

"It's rare to see you distracted. What were you thinking?"

"Well Ishan do you think Lia, Saba, Cyra, Asif even others are up to something behind my back."

"Cough, cough~"

"What happened? Here drink some water."

"I am okay." Ishan dodged Kifayat's eyes. Kifayat squinted at Ishan, "You know something right. Tell me the truth, Ishan."

"Really not. I just remembered I had forgotten my books at class. I will go and get it." Ishan hurriedly left.

Kifayat sighed. "They are so bad at acting."

When she heard Ishan talking to them saying he will handle the teacher's matter, she should have guessed that Ishan is also involved. Anyway she will know sooner or later. Kifayat let go of her worries for a while and concentrated on study.

Later at home, Kifayat was watching TV while her mother came to her. "Kifayat let's go to shopping."

"No mom, I am busy. You can take Zarin."

"What are you busy with?"

"Busy watching TV."

"Is it a joke?"

"Haha, NO. Mom please can I not go? Shopping is so tiring. I don't have that energy." Kifayat started acting coquettishly

"I will not listen today. You birthday is coming. We decided to through a party this year. You should dress up well for the party."

"My birthday!?" Kifayat sat up with her back straight. She totally forgot her birthday is coming soon.

Could be all of them were quite sneaky because they were preparing for my birthday? Huff~ Kifayat breathed a sigh of relief. More than being happy, Kifayat felt relaxed knowing they are not going to let her be in another trouble this time.

Since they are trying so hard to hide from me. I will just play along with them.

The day of the birthday came. Kifayat was a little excited. She went to school happily. After going to school, she saw that everyone was behaving normally. They wished her happy birthday and gave her blessings.

"This it it. As for being so sneaky." Kifayat muttered.

After all the class ended, Kifayat stayed because she and Cyra had cleaning duty today. At that time, a junior from another class came to Kifayat.

"Senior sister, a brother told you to go to the school's backyard. It's better to go sooner." After saying this Saif left. Saif was only responsible for bringing Kifayat to the School's backyard.

Kifayat thought, "Is this how they planned?" Kifayat went to the School's backyard. She saw no one was there. "Is it some kind of prank?" As she was about to go back she noticed the sign on school wall. She went closer to the sign. (It says go forward until you see another sign like this.)

Kifayat went ahead and reached the school gate. It was not the front gate of school. It was rarely used. Because behind this school gate is at a dead end. There is no road. So Students can only left using the front gate.

The students can't even escape using this gate. Kifayat has never used this gate before. She doesn't know where can she go using this. She thought a little. Although she suspected that her friends may prepare a surprise, she still behaved cautiously.

She saw there was the security guard uncle of their school nearby. She told him that she is going there to get something and if she is late, then came to look for her.

After that Kifayat kept following the sign, and reached a small tea house. It looked quite shabby from outside. The nameplate of the teahouse swung gently in the breeze, it's paint already faded, so the name was not visible. The teahouse looked unused, it's wooden beams sagging, ivy creeping up the walls. The sign says to go inside. But..... Kifayat hesitated.

Kifayat never heard anyone mentioned there is such a teahouse behind their school building. Are they trying to scare me?

After contemplating for a while Kifayat entered the tea house. Kifayat slowly pushed the creaky door open and a bell tinkled overhead. Kifayat became stunned after entering.
