Chapter 2 - Unrequited Love

*Ten years later*

Unrequited love is a common experience for many people. However, falling in love with your sibling's partner who clearly doesn't love you back is something that, if experienced, would make the world feel like hell.

That was the situation Amelia Wang found herself in. The pale-skinned girl was in love with Nicholas Zhao, her own sibling's boyfriend.

Amelia felt it was incredibly unfair. How could she fall in love at first sight with Nicholas?

Amelia couldn't understand why she was instantly enchanted when the man years ago, the first time they ever met. The girl's heart was instantly bound and could never turn away from the charm of the handsome prince.

It was also the reason why that beautiful teenager remained single until the age of eighteen. Despite being approached by numerous handsome men, Amelia rejected them because she didn't want to have a relationship without love. The girl was wise enough not to let those handsome young man waste their precious youth on her.

"Come on, don't dwell on it too much!" Aiden, Amelia's childhood friend, said reassuringly, trying to calm her restless mind. Amelia truly hoped that Aiden's statement would become a reality. She wanted her sister to marry Nicholas soon so that she could put an end to her growing love, which was becoming increasingly difficult to erase.

"Oh, God... Please, marry Olive to Nick soon so my suffering can end!" Amelia whispered her nightly prayer to God, desperately seeking a solution. She didn't care how many liters of tears she had shed. The girl just wanted God to grant her small wish.

One night, the doorbell rang. Amelia went downstairs to open the door and found Nicholas standing on the porch, looking incredibly polished. His black Armani suit fit perfectly on his athletic body. In his left hand, he held a bouquet of fifty red roses, the largest bouquet he had ever brought when visiting their house.

"Nick? I thought you were still in Osaka," Amelia greeted nervously, her heart skipping a beat. Her eyes gazed at the blonde-haired man with awe, taking in his charming appearance.

"I just got back yesterday," Nicholas asked kindly, his voice soothing. "Is Olivia here?"

"She is. She's talking to Daddy and Mommy in the bedroom. Let me call her," Amelia replied with a small smile, feeling a mix of excitement and anxiety. "Please—, wait!"

"Thank you!" Nicholas expressed his gratitude, declining Amelia's invitation to enter the house. He chose to wait for his partner on the porch, the anticipation evident in his eyes.

"You look unusually neat," Amelia commented reflexively, her voice filled with curiosity and admiration.

She quickly grabbed a cloth and wiped the wooden root chair for Nicholas to sit on, ensuring his clothes wouldn't get dirty from the dust. As she occasionally glanced at Nicholas, her heart raced with anticipation, unable to resist the urge to confirm what was on his mind at the moment. Nicholas's appearance indeed gave the impression of how important tonight was.

"Going on a romantic date with Olive, huh?" the girl asked again.

"Shh," Nicholas whispered, placing his index finger on his lips. The man then reached into his pants pocket and proudly displayed a small red box-shaped object to his partner's younger sibling.

Instantly, Amelia's heart felt like it was being cut with a blunt knife. Her prayers were indeed going to be answered tonight. Nicholas was going to propose to her sister. But who could lie that it didn't hurt Amelia's heart deeply?

"Wow, I see."

Tears welled up in her eyes.
