Chereads / Cursed with Infinite Rebirth in the Apocalypse (Dropped) / Chapter 21 - Against the Monster Wave!

Chapter 21 - Against the Monster Wave!

Since Garuda was hungry, we decided to "sample" the foods in the storage room. There were a lot of varieties of those that were left around, from canned goods to ready-to-eat dried foods.

Garuda went simple and fetched sliced loaf bread and various sandwich spreads. On the other hand, I decided to be a little adventurous and tried out a few varieties of cup noodles I hadn't tried before.

The result? Well... Let's just say that only one was worthy of being called "food."

The chat was lively, however, since the camera was capturing both our figures as we ate. Well, it's obvious which one the viewers were cheering for, though.

"It's about time..."

After our dinner and plenty of rest, including emptying our bladders after potty breaks, the time approached midnight. The silence in the surroundings was practically deafening.

I quickly confirmed all my weapons. The dagger strapped to my belt, the sword by my right hand, and the spear leaning on a crate behind me. With this, I can freely switch weapons at any juncture.

*BEEEEEP!*

"...!"

Finally, my phone's alarm rang. As soon as it happened, both of us began to tense up. Within the storage room, there was practically no blindspot left, so we quickly scanned the entire place.

Fortunately, there's no monster that "spawned" inside our barricade. With that, we can proceed as planned. Garuda went to the left side of the brick path, while I went to the right side. Both of us were on the ready, her with a couple of balls of flames floating on her palms and me with a sword raised to eye level.

*GROWL!*

A familiar noise, this time not a hungry stomach, was followed by a set of echoing footsteps. Without a doubt, it was those wolves! I tightened the grip on the sword and kept listening attentively. Their noise was approaching, probably noticing the light that was leaking off the entrance, coming from the floodlights.

As their steps sounded closer, they also became softer and softer, as if they were stalking their prey. I gripped the sword in my hand tightly, waiting for them to come before me.

Finally, they entered the "funnel," walking forward cautiously. I felt nervous, despite this not being my first time fighting a monster. I could see their tall backs over the brick wall, making everything feel so real.

With how big they are, it would take just a few steps for them to reach the end. I prepared to swing, trying to perfect my timing. Three, two, one...

"HAAAP!"

With a powerful shout, I raised the sword above my head and swung it down. The blade entered the gap I made and quickly lopped the second wolf's head. As if to match my timing, flames began to devour the entire path, consuming about five wolves that were already inside it.

*WHINE!* *WHINE!*

The wolves cried in pain and suffering as they burned, while I ran to the other gap and swung my sword once more. With this, I managed to kill two, while Garuda got three!

"That went quite well!" I cheered while looking at my phone.

I left the GoBro directly in front of the middle floodlight, so the viewers could see the monsters coming in and the two of us standing on either side. I could see the comments starting to get lively again, praising the design of the funnel and Garuda's firepower.

*AWOOOOOOO!*

However, that's just the beginning. With five corpses lying in the middle of the path, it would be harder for the next batch of wolves to enter. Still, it also means that they would gain a higher position, using the corpses of their allies as a ramp.

"...!"

As expected, the next wolf to enter could rear its head over the brick wall and see me and Garuda quickly. Its red eyes burned with malice, sending shivers down my spine. I quickly straightened up, chanting to myself that I should not falter, or I'll die. I already fought with a bigger wolf; after all, there's no need to fear one that is half as large.

As soon as it saw us, it quickly dashed forward, heading for the opening. I quickly swung the sword down, but this time, I missed the wolf completely. It was so fast!

"Oh no you don't!"

Before it managed to slip away, I quickly ran to my spear and aimed it like a javelin before throwing it forward! I saw a notification pop up earlier, so I must've leveled up! My strength should've increased too!

The spear flew straight, and as soon as the wolf got out of the brick wall's end, its body got skewered instantly. Furthermore, a rain of three small fireballs fell on top of it, burning it to crisp in moments!

"Hvir! I just reached level 2!" Garuda quickly announced her level.

She killed four and only leveled up once. It seems that this wolf doesn't give as much experience as the chameleon. I, who killed two, have yet to level up to level 3 either. We still have a lot of time, and the fight is just starting, anyway.

Shortly after, I began hearing the sound of claws hitting the concrete floor in a rapid, rhythmic pattern. The remaining wolves were running, preparing to rush through at once!

"More incoming! Prepare for a full wave!"

Garuda seemed to have noticed it too and shouted to alert me. Before I came back, I tried to retrieve my spear, but due to being burned by flames, it was scalding hot. Not holding it for long, I chucked it back to my previous position and ran. As I did, I saw how the wolves were flooding the entrance already, about to charge through!

I quickly moved to the notch closest to the entrance and used the spear as a substitute tripwire, letting it lie horizontally before the entrance.

The wolves saw it and jumped over it, completely avoiding the obstacle. However, they failed to notice the few traps above. One of the wolves hit the hanging fragile glass, and it shattered, raining down flammable liquid over them.

Since a few of their comrades were still burning fiercely, the flames spread rapidly, and Garuda didn't miss the chance.

"Burn to ashes!"

She took control of the flames and controlled their temperature until they turned white! The wolves, unable to evade the traps, were engulfed in flames, burning to a crisp, before fading into ashes.

Garuda, as if enjoying the situation, shouted with a hint of joy. "I just hit level 3!"

"..."

Isn't it supposed to be me farming to level up, not her? I felt exasperated at the current situation.
