Mo Yan was not particularly interested in medicine and had to worry about all sorts of matters at home, making it impossible for her to settle down and properly learn medical skills. She didn't want to let down Doctor Du's expectations, but after much consideration, she still declined.
Doctor Du didn't insist but seized every chance to teach Mo Yan some medical principles, even if she couldn't become a doctor who healed the sick and saved lives. At least in emergencies, these principles could come in handy, which would be good for her and those around her.
Mo Yan nodded earnestly and said with a shy face, "Grandpa Du, it's you who are truly far-sighted. I am willing to learn from you how to take a pulse. Please do teach me!" Learning to take a pulse would mean she would not be thrown into disarray by such emergencies in the future.
