The warm summer breeze caressed Hana's skin as she unlocked her apartment door. Slamming the door shut, she kicked off her heels and slipped into her fuzzy slippers. Heading to the fridge, she grabbed a bottle of red wine and twisted off the cap. Without bothering to grab a glass, Hana walked out to her balcony and plopped down on the outdoor couch.
Taking a long swig from the bottle, she let out an exasperated yell. "Why do men have to suck so much?" she cried out, taking another gulp of the wine. Her date had been a disaster and all she wanted was to drown out the sour taste left in her mouth with alcohol.
The man Hana had a date with tonight was supposed to be wealthy, single, and never married. However, it turns out that everything he told her was a lie. He wasn't a lawyer, but instead unemployed.
Hana can't help but laugh at the memory of his wife storming into the restaurant with their twin children in a stroller, dumping wine all over him.
The deceitful man turned out to be married with kids and living off his wife's family's money. As she takes another sip of wine, Hana looks up at the sky and reflects on her terrible dating life filled with untrustworthy men.
The moon cast a silvery light upon her, making her smooth skin appear ethereal. As she tilted the wine bottle for another swig, she stared at the inky black skyline sprawled out in front of her. "Why can't things ever be easy?" she wished aloud to the sleeping city.
Memories of past dates scrolled like a movie in her mind, each one worse than the last. There was David, the self-proclaimed poet who turned out to be a habitual thief.
Then came Alexander, the suave businessman who had more love for his money than for women.
Not to forget Michael, an addict who had drained all her savings.
Her eyes welled up with frustration and regret. She wiped them hastily not wanting to dwell too deep into that feeling of despair that always threatened to swallow her up.
Hana lifted the glass of red wine to her lips and took a slow, satisfying sip. As she gazed up at the twinkling night sky, she noticed a bright streak of light shooting across it. Her playful nature couldn't resist as she raised her finger and playfully pointed at the star, making a secret wish to have better luck with dating.
She chuckled to herself before closing her eyes and sinking into the soft cushions of the couch, holding onto her bottle of wine like a lifeline. Drifting off into a peaceful slumber, she had no idea that this simple wish would soon change her life in ways she never expected.
