"What are you doing here?" Ares asked as he stepped inside his condo. After leaving the office, he decided to go to his flat to pack his luggage. It had been confirmed. He was leaving for Summerton. This was his grandpa's plan. He must go to that place and meet the owner of the Golden Farms, get the contract renewed, and return to his old party life. However, as far as he remembered, the above plan didn't include this, "What the fuck are you doing here?"
"Language brother," Alex said while smirking. His blue eyes were identical to Ares and were filled with mirth. But instead of the latter' black hair, he was a blonde. He was relaxing on the couch as though he owned the place.
"Don't call me that" But whatever Alex did had none of Ares's attention. The only thing that mattered right now was that this jerk dared to call him brother, "I'm no brother of yours" Just because his father slept with an unknown woman doesn't make them brothers. He didn't care what outsiders thought. In his life, only he and his decisions mattered.
Alex though smiled instead of lashing back, "The truth doesn't change just because you want it to, brother. The World doesn't spin around you"
"My world does spin around me" Ares had a deadpan look on his face. Then he pointed at the door, "Now, get out of my place before I make you" This was a warning.
"Cool down, brother" Alex chuckled, "You should try to control that attitude of yours or it will get you into trouble sooner than later"
"Done?" Ares questioned stepping toward his half-brother. He pulled the latter by his collar before he started to drag him to the exit.
But before he could push his brother out, Alex announced, "This place now belongs to me" That made Ares stop, "Grandpa transferred this condo's ownership to me"
Ares couldn't help but frown, "Don't fucking lie"
Alex shrugged at that, "You can ask Grandpa. He was very disappointed in you losing the Golden Farm contract, I think he wants to teach you a lesson"
"Teach me a lesson?" Ares grinned releasing his brother, "Offcourse, that petty old man wants to make my life as difficult as possible" Petty was a small word to describe the latter. His grandfather was a man who didn't let any slight pass through without exacting payback. This made Ares even more confused. Why was a man so solid like his Grandpa bending over backward for Golden Farm' contract?
"I think he is worried about you," Alex said breaking Ares's train of thought, "Your lifestyle is worrying"
Ares scoffed, "I don't need someone else worrying about me or the lifestyle I have chosen"
"He is our Grandpa, Ares" Alex frowned, "Not a stranger, not someone else, and the way you are going is similar to father....."
"Don't" Ares had enough. He gritted his teeth while repeating, "Don't talk about that man in my presence" With that, he left that place and went to his closet, quickly stuffing all of his clothes inside the suitcase.
"Ares...." then without giving a chance for his brother to speak, he left the condo and entered the lift. The latter took him to the ground floor and he hopped into the car arranged by his Grandpa.
The journey from then on was quiet but Ares' mind was not. The things he didn't want to recall kept bombarding his mind which made him curse, "Fuck!" the driver and his companion gave him a weird look but knew better than to talk about it.
Alex...Alexis Alonso was his half-brother. They shared the same father but different mothers. Ares was born to his father's wife while Alex to his one-night stand, mistress, lover? It was a complicated relationship, to say the least. His father was a weird man. He cheated on his wife because she did it first. Both of them were the same peas in a pod but liked to think that they were different. Ares' mother although knowing his father was a playboy, married him. Then for the longest time, she stayed paranoid that he would cheat, and in the end, she herself cheated on him first. His father was no saint, as soon as his mother cheated, he went on to cheat with the man's wife his own wife cheated with. The result of this was Alexis. Both of their parents were messed up.
Blinking out of his thoughts, he returned to reality. To forget the unwanted past for some time, he took out a cigarette and popped it into his mouth taking a puff. This together with drinking kept him sane. As his smoke came to a halt the car came to a halt. But instead of him getting calm, Ares started to feel vexed as he stepped out.
"Why are we here? Aren't I going to the airport?"
"No, Sir" the driver answered, "There are no airports near Summerton"
Ares furrowed his brows, "Then bring my Chopper" he paused before asking, "Don't tell me there are no helipads in that place" And a nod from the driver was all it took for him to know.
"What kind of place is my grandpa sending me to?" he asked in disbelief while turning to the train station on his side, "I have to go in that?"
"Yes, Sir"
With no other option left, Ares decided to follow the driver into the railway station. When he reached inside, he was once again left in shock.
"This day keeps on getting better and better I see?" In front of the train, Ares was supposed to board, stood his two friends. Ryan and Elijah.
"Hey, Ares" Shouted the ever-loud Ryan while Elijah stood on the sidelines not giving them the time of day. He was busy looking at the young couple that were on another platform. Does breaking up make one envious of other couples? Ares wondered.
"What are two doing here?" then he glanced at their shoulders, "With your luggage?"
Ryan was quick to answer, "We have decided to join you, Ares" His Red hair fell on his forehead, and his green eyes twinkled in excitement, "I was thinking about taking a vacation and heard about this Summerton place. No airports and Internet, it's the best place to relax"
"It sounds like the worst place to me" Eli piped in making Ryan turn to him.
"Everything sounds worse for the man who just broke up I see. I wouldn't know"
"Offcourse you wouldn't know, you have never dated someone before" Their bickering kept on going until Ares stopped.
"Enough guys, so you want to go to Summerton?"
"Yes," Ryan answered.
"I didn't want to but he dragged me here by force" Eli' answer differed a little but it was the same in the end.
Ares sighed, "I'm not going there for a vacation"
"I know" Ryan nodded, "You do your work and we will do ours, right Eli?"
"Whatever" Elijah was nonchalant.
At last, the only thing Ares could do was go along with his friend's plan. The trio got on the train and were headed to the same destination. Summerton.
