Chapter 22 - Question The Direction

Badu and his men had been walking non-stop for two days, feeling as if Ricardo had overdone the spell on them. It took Rick's interruption to break the spell, as he stopped and screamed, "Wait a second, where the hell are we going?" Everyone, including Badu, froze after that. It hit Badu that they were walking in a direction he had no idea about. Turning to see all the Vams staring at him, he realized they were waiting for an answer from him. The fact was that he was clueless.

He just said the first thing that came into his mind, "I think we should rest for a while, then I will tell you guys where we are going." They all agreed and fell to the ground to relax. During this spare time, Badu sat down to process and remember why they were here. He came to the logical explanation that they were going to the land of the Vams to find. Now everyone knew where they were going, so they no longer had to question the direction. Badu then asked, "Who here knows why the Vamsages took my dad?"

"Isn't it obvious, they were jealous of him," Rick answered. "No, that can't be the reason all the Vamsages came to our home. It wasn't jealousy; it had to be something else," Badu responded. He recalled how he encountered the Vamsages, who he thought were trying to help him when he was left bleeding in the valley alone. They fed him the blood of something he didn't recognize.

Initially, he thought it was human blood, but he now knew it was animal blood. He deduced this from the way it affected him. It made him behave like an animal, irrational and easily influenced. They used him to activate the ancient failsafe, and then they sent him to fight and attempt to harm his own dad.

Rage boiled within him. If he encountered any of those Vamsages and discovered that they had harmed his dad, he swore to himself that their heads would roll. He rose with determination and declared to the rest, "It's time; we need to move and find my father."

THE VERY NEXT DAY...

It was another bright morning but the scope of view was not in any familiar place. Before us was a whole different landscape. There was a vast array of valleys with many caves. The structure, the spacing and setting looked ancient.

The winds blew through the area regularly making the place look even more mystical.

From a mile away, the sight of a group of men appearing dirty and worn out slowly approaching this breathtaking land.

They were the Vams lead by Badu.

Badu and his squad finally got to their homeland, the land of the Vams.

Badu was itching for some action for some action,he had brought his sword and his Vams were ready to fight.Even though there was a chance they would be outnumbered,Badu had the upperhand.

He was the only one who could walk in the sun freely whiles the others had to cover every bit of their skin with clothes. It would be easy to mistaken a vam taking an afternoon stroll for a mummy. It would be game over for any Vam who dared to face him since all he needed to do was rip off their clothes and watch their blood boil in broad daylight.

He was also confident in his fighting techniques,he had spent all his life training for a day like this. The only ones he saw as a threat were the vamsages.

And oh, how long had he been waiting to slaughter a Vamsage.Who ever tried would have to kill him first or he would have to add them to the,"Off with the head squad".

They got to the center of the land and stood there waiting for hostile tour guides to pop up.They should have been ushered in upon their entry. What happened to hospitality or were they strangers in their own land.

Badu was about to scream on top of his voice when a feminine figure caught their attention from behind.

They all turned to see a woman with blond hair, small eyes, lips, nose, slim but curvy body. She wore a cloak obviously because of the sunlight.Badu knew who she was with one glance. She was Lela, his childhood friend. He spoke upon getting closer to her,"I see that time has really changed people I used to know.

Lela replied,"Situations change people but at this moment the one that's different is you."

Badu figured out that she was referring to his bloodshot eyes but he changed the topic,"Are you the tour guide?".

"No ,I am the clerk of the Vamsages and I have been ordered to use any means necessary to take you to them",She revealed instantly putting the Vams on red alert.

Everyone became tense all of a sudden.Did Lela intend to fight and capture Badu?.It was well known that these two were childhood besties and they trained side by side.Badu could ultimately win but Lela being the clerk of the Vamsages, was also taught by all of them .She probably knew every fight technique made from the start of the ages, every power Vams had and their weaknesses.

"Are you here to fight for those cowards you call Sages",Badu teased. He wanted to to see how loyal Lela was to them and if she had the guts to battle him.Even though he could see she had changed from that little childhood friend he knew,he still felt that she had that same heart and attitude he loved.

"Its a humble invitation to the Chamber Of The Sages but I won't force you to go",Lela said knowing very well that Badu couldn't be forced to follow her and she also realized that it would be akward to fight her childhood buddy on the very first day they set their eyes on each other after a very long while apart.

"The invite is for you alone and we will serve your friends and give them a place to rest, she added while patiently waiting for Badu's answer.

"And what if I decide not to follow you",he asked.Badu heard what she had said about not forcing him but he wanted to push her buttons and check what she was made of.

"You will have to leave and if you resist and try to barge into the Chamber Of The Sages by force, you will be treated as intruders and will be dealt with as such",she replied. She already anticipated Badu and his men trying to enter the chambers so she had to ensure that it was made clear to him how futile that move would be.Badu suddenly burst into laughter. Was such a serious threat funny to him.He then turned serious all of a sudden and said,"Let's go".

His men were shocked.Did he really trust Lela that much.Badu would be alone in the chamber with all those Vamsages. If they decided to attack him,no one would be able to help him. They tried to convince him not to go but their plea fell on deaf ears. The only thing he did was insist on keeping his blade with him.It at least comforted them that if he was attacked,he would stand a fighting chance.

When Badu was led to to the chamber, his men refused to eat or rest. They stood by the gates waiting to try to break in,if they smelt any foul play. They waited for what seemed like hours before they saw Lela and Badu emerge from the gates. He looked okay but the expression he wore on his face told them something was wrong.

They bombarded him with questions when they got to him.

After he had answered almost all their inquiries he said,"I am going to a place none of you would dare to go but that's where I will find my dad."When they begged him to disclose the place he said,"He's in the Den of the Drac Ula".
