"Where were you, Li?" Xia Qingwu asked curiously, her head tilting slightly as she looked at him. "I couldn't find you anywhere in the mansion."
Wang Li's mind raced for an excuse. He couldn't very well tell her the truth about where he had been. With a sly smile, he replied, "I was patrolling the lands nearby, making sure everything was in order."
Xia Qingwu easily accepted his excuse, her curiosity replaced by a gentle smile. "I see. Well, I'm glad you're back. We've missed you."
Wang Li's heart softened at the sight of his wife and child. He walked over to the table, bending down to kiss Xia Qingwu's forehead before lifting Wang Xiao into his arms. The baby gurgled happily, his chubby hands reaching out to grasp his father's hair.
"Look at you, Xiao," Wang Li said, his voice filled with affection. "Getting stronger every day."
