Chapter 16 - Astral Dragon

We glided through many realms in search of Ariana, but there was no sight of her. Finally, we reached the 'Glowing Vale' section within the astral realm. It was one of the most beautiful sections in the whole astral realm.

The Glowing Vale lived up to its name, with mystical lights dancing around, casting a mesmerizing glow. The air was filled with a soothing melody, and the landscape seemed to represent nature in the mortal realm. As we continued our search, I couldn't help but appreciate the breathtaking beauty of this section.

Elijah seemed captivated by the surroundings but remained focused on his task. "This place is incredible, but we need to find Ariana."

I pondered for a moment, considering the possibilities within the vast astral realm. "Ariana might have sought refuge in one of the sanctuaries here. Let's check the Enchanted Grove; it's known to offer solace and protection."

We headed to the Enchanted Grove.

The Enchanted Grove unfolded before us, a haven of natural wonder within the Glowing Vale. Massive, ancient trees with luminescent leaves stood tall, casting a gentle, ambient light that created a dreamlike atmosphere. The air was infused with the fragrance of otherworldly blossoms, and the ground was carpeted with vibrant, celestial flowers.

As we ventured deeper into the grove, the surroundings became more surreal. Soft, melodic whispers seemed to emanate from the very fabric of the valley, creating a serene symphony that resonated through the air. Tiny creatures of pure astral energy flitted about, adding to the enchantment of the grove.

We found a small tree house in one of the trees. We decided to take a break there.

Elijah, still enchanted by the beauty of the Enchanted Grove, turned to me with a curious expression. "Magnus, I can't help but wonder how you seem to know so much about the astral realm. It's not common knowledge, even among royals."

I took a deep breath, my gaze fixed on the celestial landscape. "Well, Prince Charming, my journey through the astral realm began eight years ago. After that encounter with Nyx and Regulus, I decided to explore and understand the full extent of my powers. With the guidance of Seraphina, I delved into the mysteries of the astral realm, honing my abilities and discovering its hidden wonders."

Elijah listened intently, intrigued by the revelation. "You spent eight years in the astral realm? That's quite a commitment. What did you find during your journey?"

I smiled, recalling the countless realms and challenges I had faced. "I've encountered various realms, each with its unique characteristics. From the Crystal Expanse to the Shadowed Abyss, I've navigated through the maze of the astral realm. It was a quest for knowledge and power, a journey that shaped me into what I am today."

Elijah nodded, acknowledging the depth of my experiences. "It seems I have underestimated the extent of your dedication."

I passed a glass of water to Elijah and curiously asked, "Thank you, Prince Charming. You see, I am more curious about how you managed to enter the Astral Realm."

Elijah looked distressed; his hand was shaking. "Well, in my kingdom, there existed a portal that had been open for many ages. My ancestors hid it because if this news gets out, the mortal realm will fall victim to the angel-demon war."

I nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "An open portal to the astral realm for centuries? That's indeed a dangerous situation. Your ancestors were wise to conceal it. But how did you discover it?"

Elijah sighed, taking a sip of the water. "I stumbled upon an ancient journal in our royal archives. It contained details about the portal and the measures to keep it hidden. My curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to investigate. Little did I know that my actions would lead to such complications."

I leaned back, contemplating the consequences of his discovery. "It seems fate has intertwined our paths in unexpected ways. Prince Charming, you need to show me the portal location."

He leaned forward and glared at me. "Don't call me Prince Charming. And I will take you there, only if you help me find Ariana."

I couldn't help but smirk at his response. "Alright, alright, no more Prince Charming. But remember, you're the one asking for my help, so let's keep it civil, shall we?"

Elijah huffed, crossing his arms. "Fine, but don't think you can manipulate the situation just because you have some knowledge about the astral realm."

I raised an eyebrow, amused by his defensive stance. "I'm not here to manipulate anything, just to help you find Ariana. And if you want my assistance, you'll have to share the portal location sooner or later."

Elijah sighed, "Let's focus on finding Ariana first. The portal location can wait."

I smiled as I took the glass cup from him. "Why are you so obsessed with her, Prince Charming?"

He drew his sword when he flashed me a fierce look. "Don't call me PRINCE CHARMING."

I put my hands together and sarcastically said, "Okay, honey. Calm down." I winked at him.

He looked pissed as he turned away. "When I was young, she saved me from my tragic life. Anyway, that is for another day, dimwit."

I angrily pointed at him and said, "Hey, don't call me a dimwit." Elijah smirked at my reaction.

Elijah's smirk only fueled my irritation. "Alright, Prince—sorry, Elijah. Let's focus on finding Ariana. We can save the name-calling for later."

He nodded, still wearing that smug expression. "Fair enough, but I hope your vast knowledge about the astral realm is more than just talk."

We planned to go to the next section of the Astral Realm. I touched the portal, and we were teleported to the Shadowed Abyss. The Abyss was covered in darkness. I created a small ball of light.

Elijah grabbed me and pointed to the endless tunnel of darkness. There was a pair of red eyes. I was about to shout, but Elijah covered my mouth with his hand. It was the dragon who kidnapped Ariana.

Elijah told me to stay quiet in a corner while he went to fight the dragon alone. I angrily thought, "Does he believe he can take down the astral dragon?"

Elijah, who was determined to save Ariana, unsheathed his sword. The dragon's red eyes glowed ominously in the darkened Abyss, and its massive form emerged from the shadows.

With a swift motion, the dragon lunged forward, its scales gleaming in the dim light. Elijah skillfully deflected the first strike, the clash of steel against scales echoing through the shadowed expanse. The dragon was relentless, its tail sweeping across the space as it attempted to knock Elijah off balance.

Elijah dodged with agility, narrowly avoiding the powerful strikes. His sword danced through the air, each movement precise and calculated. The battle between man and dragon unfolded in a mesmerizing display of skill and sheer determination.

As the fight raged on, Elijah found an opening. With a swift maneuver, he lunged at the dragon's vulnerable underbelly, aiming for a critical strike. The dragon roared in pain, its red eyes flaring with intensity. Yet, despite the injury, it fought back with renewed ferocity.

Suddenly, we heard Ariana scream, "ELIJAH!?"

Elijah was momentarily distracted when the dragon lunged at him with a massive force. Oh god, that girl! She should have been quiet.

I swiftly intervened and grabbed Elijah by his waist. We barely escaped from the dragon. I shouted at him, "DON'T GET DISTRACTED!" He became flustered. "You can let me go."

I was still holding him. I pushed him away and said, "Sorry." I looked at my hands.

Wait, this reminds me of the scene my sister said about a novel. But I can't remember anything about it. Never mind, I have to defeat the dragon.

Realizing the urgency, me and Elijah refocused on the battle. We circled the dragon strategically, coordinating our movements. The dragon unleashed a torrent of fiery breath. We dodged the flames with synchronized precision, taking advantage of their momentary vulnerability.

Seizing the opportunity, Elijah lunged at the dragon's side, slashing at its scales relentlessly. I summoned magical barriers to shield us from the dragon's retaliatory strikes. The fight intensified as we worked together.

In a final coordinated assault, Elijah and I executed a well-choreographed attack. He distracted the dragon with swift strikes while I channeled mana into a powerful spell. As the dragon roared in defiance, I unleashed a surge of energy that enveloped its massive form.

The dragon had disappeared into the shadows. I stayed behind to witness the dragon's remnants while Elijah raced to where Ariana was held captive.

As I neared the location where we defeated the astral dragon, I saw a tiny fur ball floating in the air. It was the astral dragon's baby. It was then that it struck me: I had killed its mother. I suddenly felt sad and guilty for ruining the baby's life. I also felt tears coming from my eyes.

My eyes went to the dragon's neck, where I saw a symbol on its back. It was a slavery rune. I was shocked and angry at the same time. Who the hell did something like this?

I found myself hugging the baby dragon and sensed a familiar scent. I realized that it was the work done by Ariana.
