Jonas first became aware of a pounding headache. That was the first indication that he was alive. It was similar to hangovers he'd had in the past, but this felt worse. It was like a symphony orchestra's percussion secion was pounding away in his head. His eyes were still closed, so he couldn't say if it was more of a migraine than a headache, but it still was rather unpleasant.
His pain didn't end there. The headache was bad enough, but it was only the tip of the iceberg for him. The next thing he became aware of as he woke up was how his entire body ached. As if he'd done a complete workout and didn't stop until he'd worn himself into the ground. Somehow wearing out every single muscle in his body.
It probably wasn't like that, but when one muscle aches, it's hard to distinguish which muscle is sore from other muscles next to it. Especially when it's the entire body aching.
The next thing he became aware of was the sounds around him. Like deep, regular breating that indicated others were sleeping nearby. The volume let him know he didn't have a migraine, just a granddaddy of headaches.
Jonas carefully opened his eyes, mostly to keep from giving himself another pain, since sometimes opening your eyes after waking up to your body in the condition his was in can make your eyes hurt. Often because you open them looking directly into a light source that you weren't aware was there in the first place.
That had often happened to him when he woke up in jail after a fight or just passing out from being drunk at a bar. However, usually those times also came with a headache, which also made his hearing and vision a little more sensitive than they usually were anyway.
As he opened his eyes slwoly, hbreathed out a sigh of relief that he wasn't looking into anything that would make his eyes hurt. However, he did see things that made him wonder, not only how long he'd been out, but also what happened while he was out.
He not only saw Elmo, Kim, Elin, and the two girls he saved, but he saw others he didn't recognize as well as Patricia and Patrcik. Whatever the answers to what happened would be, he was sure it would be interesting.
Carefully sitting himself up as the ahces slowly faded, he looked around. Everyone seemed fine, although he did notice that Kim wasn't wearing her armor, though the shirt she did wear definitely gave such a good view of cleavage that almost made the bikini armor, in Jonas' mind, seem modest.
Given what Kim's reaction to the armor becoming bikini armor when she first put it on, Jonas found himself interested in seeing what Kim's reaction to this would be. He figured it would be rather entertaining, and given what had happened before he'd blacked out, he felt he could use some entertainment. Especially if it didn't have the chance to harm him.
Jonas could see that he was the first to wake up. Not that he cared, one way or the other, but it would be nice to have someone to talk to and find out what happened while he was out. At the very least he'd be able to have something to help him pass the time more quickly.
Sighing, he laid back down on the ground and closed his eyes. Maybe he'd be able to get a little more rest and time would pass quickly and he wouldn't have to wait for the others to wake up.
It wasn't until he'd settled himself back down and started to try and go to sleep again, that he realized that the light in the room was stating to get brighter. Which meant that it was morning and soon it would probably be too bright for anyone to get any sleep.
Jonas couldn't help but sigh again. With that realization, he tried his best to go back to sleep, otherwise he couldn't say out worn out he would be the rest of the day.
Not that it mattered, because he heard others start to stir shortly after that. A couple were quiet when they woke up, but when others woke up, they weren't exactly talking in voices that would allow others to sleep. Instead, they were so loud that even if he was asleep, Jonas was sure he'd wake up.
"What do you think we can eat with the food we got last night?" One such person said.
"Actually, I think some of that food ought to be tossed out," another person replied.
"What? It was just sitting there. Why shouldn't we eat it?"
"Because I seriously doubt cooking a turkey or chicken or whatever over an open flame is a reliable way to cook it so you don't get sick from it."
Jonas groaned as he sat up, accepting that he wasn't going to get any more rest at this time. Or at least with these guys talking.
"Ah, good to see you're finally awake," the first one said to Jonas.
"I'm not sure I remember you names," Jonas replied. "What were they?"
"I'm Leon and this is Elwin," the second man answered. "We were just discussing about some of the food we got from the goblins last night."
Jonas nodded. "Well, Leon is right, Elwin," Jonas said, hoping this would end their discussion. "If you can't cook a bird in an oven or a pot, you're not likely to get it thoroughly cooked and you could get worms or salmonella."
"Uh, what's that salmon-whatever?" Elwin asked.
"It's an unpleasant disease that makes you have to go. A lot. And then there's how you feel horrible through at least most of it," Jonas answered, only saying what he understood about it, which wasn't much. Although, it was more than enough for himself to know he didn't want to get it, regardless of the reason.
"Well, even if we can't eat that, at least we'll be able to finish up hearing everyone's story of what they were doing before they got to this place," Elwin remarked.
"What's going on?" Jonas asked as he stood up, a little surprised that he found his balance so easily.
"Oh, last night everyone started taking turns sharing what they did before they got pulled into this, uh, I think others have described it as a competition," Leon answered.
"I think we only have a few more to do," Elwin added. "Any that you missed, Owen said that he'd use his system to let you know what was said."
Jonas nodded as he yawned, wondering if there was anything edible to eat. He could feel his stomach starting to complain about being so empty.
"Oh, good to see you're up so early," a voice said, making those already awake turn to see who it was.
It turned out to be Owen. Which Jonas found out from Elwin.
"I thought you were taking the second watch, Owen," Elwin said.
"I did. I waited until about halfway through the night before taking over for Bart," Owen replied. "I'm pretty sure I'm the one of our team who worked himself the least yesterday, so I figured that I should let everyone sleep and I'd take the brunt of the fatigue from staying up."
"Would you keep it down?" Elin complained as she sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
"Why? It's about time for everyone to get up," Elwin asked.
"Because you never know who might be more cranky than others to have you wake them up with your incessant babbling like idiots," Patricia said, looking rather irritated.
"Not my fault you don't take care of yourself," Elwin retorted.
"I take care of myself just fine, thank you," she aid.
"I'm just wondering, who was it that-" Elwin started to say.
"Enough!" Owen roared, waking everyone else up who hadn't already started waking up on their own.
Elwin and Patricia stopped their arguing as Owen's displeasure surprised them as well as not wanting to incur more of his anger.
"Now then," Owen continued when it was clear he had everyone's attention. "While we get something to eat before we head out, let us continue what we were doing last night. For those who weren't awake then, I'll supply you with who said what, so you don't need to worry about having missed anything." Owen paused a moment, looking around at everyone before continuing, "For those who weren't awake last night, we were telling each other what happened right before we got here."
"How far back should we go?" Kim asked, sounding a little bored.
"As far as it feels right to you," Owen replied. "Though, why didn't you ask this last night?"
"Because I didn't feel like it then," Kim replied casually. "And because I really didn't think of it then."
Owen nodded. "Fair enough," he said.
"Uh, um, could I go first?" Heather asked, raising her hand.
"Sure, feel free to," Owen said, sitting down against the wall as Elwin rummaged through the food they'd brought with them, clearly looking for something to eat as Heather began her story.
