Chapter 11 - 1st Job

After Gore took care of all their gear, he left all of the farmhands with David, and he told them to get some packable food. Gore gave them a single gold coin, and he told them to split it up into change.

Gore walked to a building with a wooden sign on it. On the sign, there were white painted letters which read: "Mercenary Guild- Come inside for work."

Gore sniffed and then bent down and threw the doors open before stepping inside the small building. Before Gore, there was a small wooden desk with a man filling out paperwork upon it.

The man was not handsome and was exactly the sort you might expect to find in a clerical job. The man sighed as he turned to Gore. "What do you want?"

"Are there any jobs available? I know how to use Magic."

The man's eyes widened for a moment as he looked Gore up and down. "A giant with Magic? Show me."

Gore grimaced as his back began to ache from being bent over like a fucking bitch. "Yes, please let me get out of this small ass building."

The man stood up from behind his desk. His face was ugly, but his body was well muscled in stark contrast to his dusty environment. The Man walked outside of the building with Gore, and they went to an abandoned training yard that was nearby.

The man pointed to stone block targets. "Blast those with whatever sort of magic you have."

Gore nodded. "Okay."

Gore took the ring off his finger. He imagined it turning to a sword, and it did. He then pointed the sword towards the stone block. Gore sighed and then imagined a fireball shooting from the end of his sword. A fireball formed around the tip of his blade and shot towards the stone block.

BOOM. The stone block was covered in black smoke as the fireball slammed against it. As the smoke dissipated the clerk could see that the stone block was completely shattered.

The Clerk let out a soft breath. "That was VERY impressive. Can you do that spell just one more time but shoot it at that."

The man pointed to a larger stone block. Gore nodded. "I will."

Gore raised his sword once again and as he imagined the spell a fireball formed on his sword again. It shot towards the target, and it seemed to be slightly smaller.

The fireball slammed all the way through the huge stone block target, and it nearly went through the other side.

Gore rubbed his nose with the back of his hand. "I tried to condense that one a bit more."

The cleric nodded. "Wow, just wow. All I can say is that the Duke is definitely going to want to hire you. He wasn't planning on going on any campaigns, but when he sees this power, he's probably going to put his armor on straight away and say something like… Let's go get some gold so we can buy some roast mutton BOYS!"

Gore blinked as the Cleric actually mocked the Duke. "Uh, is Veros at war with another country?"

The cleric nodded. "We are at war with Alios. They are directly north of us. They are one of the largest countries in the world. They have taken four of our castles and two of our cities in the past thirty years."

Gore turned his sword into a ring before slipping back onto his hand. He turned back to the Cleric calmly. "I don't know much about sieges since I've only been in one and that was… recent. Is that typically a lot of castles in a short timespan or what?"

The Cleric's eyes widened. "Which castle?"

Gore blinked. "It was a Svern castle that we conquered, I believe. I did that under Dane and Alfred of the Talien kingdom."

The Cleric nodded slightly. "Okay well. I can promise you that the Lintos, the Duke, will want to hire you. I will tell him about this. Come back to me tomorrow at noon and I will have the details for you."

Gore nodded. "Okay."

Gore swung away from the man, and he began to head back towards where David, Dal, Dor, Lor, and Yor had been last and where they had agreed to meet back.

He found them all talking to each other and eating around the horses. They had bought several large bags of dried meat along with other non-perishable food.

Gore nodded to them. "We are going to rest well tonight in an inn. I've got us all a job and we will be training tomorrow."

David's eyes widened. "What's the job?"

"We are going to be sieging and then storming a castle."

David's eyes bulged, almost out of their sockets. "A castle…"

He rubbed his head. "Do you have any experience with that, Gore?"

Gore nodded. "I do. The reason they hired us was because of me. I have Magic strong enough to breach gates and even walls."

David looked even more shocked. "A Giant that knows how to use Magic… No wonder you weren't carrying a weapon."

Gore smiled. "Oh yeah, I guess you haven't seen my weapon, huh."

Gore slid the ring off his finger, and he transformed it into its massive form as a sword. The sword was longer and wider than David. Gore swung the blade easily around a few times before transforming it back into a ring and sticking it onto his finger. "Cool right?"

David shook his eyes and blinked. "This is… Gore I'm glad I joined your party. I just hope that we can keep up with you on our horses."

Gore grinned. "Yeah, it's going to be a blast."

The group eventually went inside a larger nice-looking inn. Gore walked up to the counter. "I want six rooms."

The man at the counter nodded. "That will be 10 silver coins for the night."

Gore slid a gold coin across the counter. "I want the change."

The man took the coin and nodded before bending down and counting out 90 Silver coins. It took quite a while, but Gore was not impatient.

Within the hour, Gore was lying in his bed with his feet sticking off the edge by several feet. He sighed in his bed as he curled his feet. "I would almost prefer sleeping on the ground. In the future, I want to invest in a really big tent…"

Gore fell asleep thinking happy thoughts of the warband that he was on the way to building.
