After lunch, Seth left for a meeting with Ellis. Darien would be there, also, so I was curious about it. But I wouldn't pry. I had a feeling Seth might share the details with me once their discussion was over. 

I went in search of my father in the meantime, for I desired his permission to venture to the city for larger canvases. I felt homesick more often these days. It crept up on me every morning like an illness despite being in the presence of the very people who were supposed to be my home. 

That piece was still missing. My home incomplete, and a downpour of loneliness still capable of battering me. 

I wanted larger canvases to paint the lake I had lived near as a boy. Where I'd gone fishing with my father and swimming with friends. Every ripple and splash were ingrained in my memory, and I wanted to recreate them, then hang the portrait above the dresser across from my bed so I greeted home every moment I awoke and again before I closed my eyes at night.
