Chereads / Jinnx Hunter / Chapter 21 - GAME OF TAG

Chapter 21 - GAME OF TAG

Arex eyes widened as though he couldn't fathom why Grecko would suddenly want him to become a Shikari.

"Can you enlighten me further as why would you want me to become one of you when you all wanted me completely dead in the first place?" Arex asked.

They were still inside the big black mass zone of Grecko, and Arex seemed to be getting why would Grecko abruptly trapped him here. Arex believed that it was for this reason. That Grecko could probably be thinking about discussing this matter away from the ears of his subordinates in the belief that they all would certain disagree.

"Well, I do believe it's for the reason that you came to possess a skill that we all didn't expect from a mortal like you. Most especially from a human that had been infected by a Jinnx."

Arex couldn't help but smirk. "Are you expecting that just because you told me that I would eventually be thrilled to accept becoming one of you?"

"Yes," Grecko was serious that he instantly replied.

"Well, you're just wasting your time because I won't be signing up for that. I am not a potential hero type of person, you know."

"Who says you need to be a hero? Shikaris don't describe themselves as heroes. We treat everything as a form of hunt. Although yes, as part of being in necropolis, it is indeed our duty to maintain the balance but that doesn't mean all of our principles are the same." Grecko admitted, then he walked closer to Arex.

It was still a puzzle for Arex, despite how Grecko already proved that he was blind to him, to believe that he really was blind because of how perfect he walked straight to Arex's direction.

And before Arex knew it, Grecko was already standing close before him this time.

"Just like the seven lords of the black parade. Although all of them may be fighting the Jinnxes for one cause, each of them has different principles when it comes to being a shikari, particularly a lord of the Black Parade. Take for example, Leomold. He's a shikari and lord, and yet, his principle stays fair. While others focused on turfing out the infected soul completely, Leomold preferred to capture them alive for his studies."

Grecko's quite long explanation eventually followed by his right hand that eventually rested above Arex's left shoulder, before he added, "My point here, Arex, is that if you become a Shikari, you could choose to remain as you are now or decide to form your own conviction. As long as it won't become a reason to compromise your mission, you're all good."

Despite all of the tings that Grecko said, all that Arex could even come to reply was a sarcastic grin. "I am not just referring to anything about conviction and principles here, you know. When I say about not being a potential hero, it was because I don't take favors for free. I believe what you're trying to ask me sounded more like a favor."

"It's not, because if you remember this was the wager you're going to bet for the game, or have you already forgotten about that too quickly, Arex?" Grecko quickly reply after removing his hand.

Arex was surprised that Grecko was much clever than him, he had tried to divert the subject in order for Grecko to be confused and that he could eventually turn the table in his favor. However, Arex may have actually fooled himself believing that he could actually play his tricks to this high lord of Necropolis.

After a while, the two become quiet that the silence was slowly making them deft. It wasn't until a moment later when Grecko finally broke this silence and eventually said, "I understand that it kind of sound unfair to you that you are actually the only one stating a bet here."

Despite how Grecko may have said that, he still was unable to get Arex talking again. Somehow this left Grecko wondering what could be going through Arex's mind right now. This fact alone makes him more intrigued and because of it, Grecko suddenly got even more excited to lure in Arex for the bait.

"Well, Arex, before anything else, let me finally tell you what's this game is all about." Grecko finally said and he felt that Arex somehow flinched. He knew that it was a good sign that meant Arex's interest may have been stirred by what he said.

With that, Grecko eventually continued, "The game is like a game of tag in the human world. We call the tag the blind. It's a simple game with a complex twist as the tag's responsibility is to simply find one to kill. The game doesn't end until one is down, so expect that you couldn't trust any other players as well, knowing they'd wish to survive too. Not unless you are all skilled enough to defeat the blind then the game ends there."

"That's a gruesome game. And you let other Shikaris die from participating?"

"It's a game we often do to see how fit the Shikaris would be once we deploy them to face those Jinnxes." Grecko retort back.

"Even so! What do you think of these Shikaris? Your cockfight entertainment?"

"I"m not sure I'm getting any of your terms, but it's not like there has been any circumstances before of a Shikari dying from this game."

"Why so?"

"Because there's definitely a way you'd discover once you're inside the game in order for you to survive together with the other players. Unfortunately, I couldn't tell you that, Arex. it will spoil the fun."

Arex was growing infuriated by the second as he realized the risk of joining this game

"I don't think I could entertain the idea of joining this game."

"Having cold feet now?"

"No! I merely just don't want to die there the second time around when you all telling me that I am already dead."

"Make sense, although in your case it would as though you'd vanish completely."

"All the more reason I don't want to join."

Although Arex was already determined from not joining, Grecko still continued to convince him anyway, particularly when Grecko finally pulled out his trump card when he said, "Well, if you partake in this game and win, not only would you be able to gain your opponent's wager and be safe from completely vanishing. What if I offer you riches? More powers like a scythe of your own? Or maybe something more that you would surely want?"

"What?" Arex asked, curioused.

There, Grecko half-smiled deviously as he replied, "Your resurrection."
