Chapter 17 - JUST A SMALL BITE

Leomold eventually came back later, with a servant following him and holding what appeared to be two sets of bows and arrows.

"What exactly is your goal here, huh?" Arex wasted no time inquiring as soon as he noticed the weapons being placed on a nearby table. And as though Grecko had already sensed that they were done putting those items on the table, he immediately stood up and went towards where the table was.

Arex, who was still confused about how Grecko was able to identify where the table was despite being blind, instantly had his jaw barely drop due to bewilderment.

"I had doubts over you being blind, you know." Arex simply couldn't stop his mouth from saying those words. His way of insulting the high lord would have meant his death, but since Arex was nowhere aware of such a consequence, he spoke of it without restraint.

Leomold, who was still watching them from the side, grew increasingly anxious seeing how Arex would certainly be eliminated completely from how he continuously insulted the high lord.

However, Leomold was taken aback by the high lord's nonchalant reaction to Arex's response as though he was not the slightest bothered by the way Arex answered him. This would be the very first time that Leomold would witness Grecko displaying that kind of behavior.

"What made you question my blindness? Was it because I could easily perceive my surroundings? Unfortunately, although that would seem to be the case, I still can't see. I couldn't even see what you looked like." Grecko finally responded.

"That's hardly sufficient evidence to prove you're truly blind. And you have the audacity to challenge me to show that you are more skilled than me while claiming that you are blind, huh? What do I know if you're just deceiving me to show off." Arex eventually replied.

"Trying to show off…me? Hmm…" Grecko couldn't resist letting out a gentle laugh after echoing Arex's words.

"Do you believe you can deceive me by acting as if you are visually impaired? I've faced many challenges before you, and most of them tried to deceive me with tricky tactics, but they all ended up failing." Arex persisted in hurling additional offensive remarks at Grecko.

Once more, Grecko chuckled at how Arex mocked him and doubted his blindess.

"So tell me, Arex? How would you like me to demonstrate that I am truly unable to see?"

Meanwhile, Leomold still worries about the potential outcome this bantering between the high lord and Arex would result in. He knew how often Grecko became quickly triggered when one of his subordinates disobeyed him, especially if someone dared to disrespect him.

Yet, the actions Arex was taking and his approach left Leomold suddenly feeling anxious, especially when Grecko seemed to be paying no mind to the mockery that Arex had been doing right in front of him.

He understood that if the high lord decided to reprimand Arex, it could trigger a catastrophic outcome that might result in Arex's total extinction. He couldn't fathom the thought of parting with Arex now, as it would also spell the conclusion of his research on Arex if such a scenario were to unfold.

Another thing that bothers Leomold would be that he couldn't just step in and straightforwardly ask Arex to behave. He wouldn't just appear to be immediately favouring one side, particularly Grecko's side. At the very least, Leomold still wanted to uphold his conviction of being fair in all cases.

In the end, Leomold's only solution was to give Arex some hints to justify his behaviour towards the high lord because Grecko even loses his patience. It would not just stop the high lord from pushing his boundaries, but also save Arex from the chance of vanishing entirely if not beheaded by the high lord.

Just as Leomold believed Arex was finished with the high lord, he was caught off guard when Arex decided to challenge him once again.

Arex reached out his hand and directed his finger at Grecko's blindfolds. "I'd like you to remove the fabric you use to cover your eyes. Prove to me that you cannot really see," he stated.

Leomold was the one who immediately recoiled upon hearing that. He never imagined that Arex would go to such lengths as to command the high lord to show his eyes.

Understanding the potential consequences of Arex's persistence, Leomold decided to intervene at last. Leomold bowed his head as he approached Grecko, "I'm sorry, my lord, but I believe I should intervene and scold this human for boldly commanding you. He is completely ignorant. I failed to educate him of the proper etiquettes before coming here." Leomold begged for the high lord's mercy as he continued to bow down before Grecko.

Finally, Grecko responded, "There's nothing to fret about, Leomold. If this human insists on seeing my naked eyes, I believe I am prepared to grant him his request."

Leomold's eyes widened in shock, not because the high lord permits Arex to finally see his eyes, but because of the consequences that Arex would have should he continue to do that.

He wished to warn Arex. However, Leomold knew that he would never betray the high lord in front of him by telling Arex what he knew. Leomold, having no other option, merely looked in Arex's direction and simply shook his head slowly as though he were conveying Arex to stop what he was doing.

But as stubborn as he was, Arex didn't bother to understand what it was that Leomold was trying to warn him about. At the back of Arex's mind, he thought that Leomold could only be acting like the bigger person once more and thought that stopping him would resolve his issue concerning Grecko deceiving him for being blind.

"Are you absolutely sure you wanted me to prove to you that I cannot see?" Grecko once again questioned Arex, diverting Arex's focus back to him.

When Arex tilted his head to the side, he then replied, "You're taking so long to do that! Just do it and show me!" His arrogant and impatient demeanour was really pushing the high lord to the limits of his patience.

Leomold, on the other hand, feared Arex's abrupt and irresponsible decision. Because Leomold and the rest of the other Black Parade lords knew that whoever tried to make the high lord remove his blindfold would certainly regret ever wanting that.

"Would you care to close your eyes, Leomold? I don't want you to look into my eyes once I remove the fold." Grecko cautiously warned Leomold.

"But, high lord, this human—"

Right as Leomold was on the verge of speaking, Grecko swiftly lifted his hand to signal for Leomold to halt. "Well, just revealing an eye would suffice," Grecko remarked, raising the fold from the lower part of his face, revealing what seemed to be his left eye that has no pupil. It was a purely vivid hue of emerald in colour that would definitely attract anyone who saw it, denying them the chance to look away.

Before Leomold could intervene, he quickly shut his eyes, avoiding Grecko's gaze.

As Grecko sensed that Leomold was not looking at him, he then reassured him, "No worries, Leomold. This human might probably survive this. Although it will surely hurt a little," he said as he remained looking at Arex before he concluded, "You know, like a small bite." while flashing a dreadful grin on his face.
