With limited time, Theodore luckily managed to squeeze through the door to the fire escape, but his breath caught in his throat as the door behind him slammed shut.
Fortunately, there were no zombies in this place, so they could be relieved momentarily. Theodore also had to catch his breath. His adrenaline was really pumping just a moment ago.
If Theodore had been a few seconds late, he might have been trapped with a horde of those damn zombies; luckily, he was able to move quickly.
"We have to keep moving. It's almost night. We have to find a place to hide before nightfall." Seeing Theodore struggling, the army chief began to take command.
They couldn't keep relying on Theodore, and they recognized his prowess, so they no longer needed to oppress him like before. The chief began to lead the way by climbing the stairs to the second floor.
"Be careful. We don't know if there will be zombies upstairs," Theodore said from behind the group.
Theodore chose to walk at the back because he felt his body was exhausted, especially after fighting and running like before. Hence, he could only tell the others to be careful since he was not the one walking in front.
"Yes, you're right. How are you doing?" The army chief was quite worried about Theodore's state.
"Still good; at least I'm not dead." Theodore sighed tiredly. He should be grateful for still being able to survive after being surrounded by a large wave of zombies like before.
"Good then. Can you take a look at the floor plan and tell us where to go once we reach the second floor?" The chairman ordered Theodore to find their destination after they reached the second floor.
"No problem. It would be better to check the laboratory in this hospital; after leaving here, we just needed to walk straight; the lab is at the end of the corridor." Theodore explained where they would go after this.
The army chief did not object to Theodore's decision, so they followed Theodore's words.
It didn't take long for them to climb the stairs to the second floor. And they didn't hear any noise from behind the fire escape door.
They had previously heard noise from behind the door, but now they haven't heard anything. For some reason, they felt good at the moment; this kind of quiet atmosphere was very unusual.
"It feels like something is wrong out there." Theodore also shared his thoughts from the back of the group.
"All of you be prepared to attack whatever appears behind this door, got it?" The army chief warned his men.
Not only the soldiers but also Theodore were back at the ready with his sword in hand; he nodded his head towards the army chief, indicating to him that he was ready.
After making sure everyone was ready, the chief opened the door quickly. The others had already raised their weapons, ready to shoot whoever appeared after the chief opened the door.
But when they opened the door, nothing appeared. For a moment, they could only look at each other, feeling that the current situation was really strange.
Seeing that no one appeared, the army leader led his group to leave. They did not walk out slowly, with their weapons ready to fire at any time.
Theodore, who was at the back of the line, finally had time to look around. He felt strange when he saw that the situation on the second floor was completely different from the first floor.
Something terrible must have happened on the second floor, but Theodore had no idea what it was. It could be that only necessary people were allowed to visit this second floor, but even then, there would be many employees here.
But it was completely quiet here; no one was to be seen. Seeing that the situation wasn't too dangerous, Theodore took a walk to check around. He had to find out what was going on there.
"This place is a mess," Theodore muttered as he looked around, even though it was quiet and no other people were around.
But, indeed, the situation was really messy. Many papers were scattered, furniture was out of place, and some were broken into pieces.
There were also many blood spatter marks around, but the problem was that no zombies were on the first floor. If Theodore had seen many zombies here, he would have understood why this place was so chaotic and messy.
"We can't waste time. We need to check this place to find Doctor Christopher!" The army chief reminded them what they needed to do right now.
"The laboratory is over there. We better go there." Theodore pointed in that direction.
Finally, they started walking in the direction of the laboratory. The closer they got to the laboratory, the more pungent odor they smelled, the stench of zombies, but more foul than usual.
"Oh my! What is this horrible smell!"
"Beware everyone!"
Theodore furrowed his brow as he sensed a very powerful figure around this place. He. He could feel it, but he still couldn't see its form.
Also, as they walked closer, the odor grew more pungent, and on the floor, blood stains were even more intense than in the second-floor lobby earlier.
The laboratory was located at the end of this long corridor. They had to walk along this corridor to reach it.
The closer they walked to the laboratory, the more vaguely they heard the growling sounds often heard by zombies.
Finally, they heard a very strong growl that smelled bad, so they turned their heads in the direction where the sound came from.
And what a surprise when Theodore and the others saw a giant zombie that was very terrible at the end of the corridor where the laboratory was located.
The zombie's face really looked hideous, with drops of blood coming out of its mouth, but that wasn't what made it look scary.
The fact that the zombie-like creature was eating the carcasses of zombies or humans was more terrifying at the moment.
Everyone who saw the figure immediately felt their bodies shiver, and they even felt their legs couldn't move because of the shock.
The thing they didn't want finally happened. The giant zombie turned its head towards them and began to roar loudly.
Theodore, who realized they were in a dangerous situation, immediately shouted loudly to warn the others.
"Everyone run!" Theodore immediately forced his legs, which did not want to move, to turn around and run away.
