Eve snapped out of her thoughts and turned to see Maidservant Ann standing not very far from her. She didn't know when she came out of the house or came up behind her, but then, she saw how pale her face was and how her lips had turned white. It seems to have lost all its color. She looked like someone who had no strength left in her anymore and just by looking at her, she felt sadness well up inside of her.
How could she leave and not see her again? How could she leave her with no one by her side? Up until now, Eve had come to realize that Maidservant Ann had no one, except her. When she looked back through all the years, she realized that Maidservant Ann had been nothing but a mother to her, teaching her how to live properly and correcting her whenever she makes a mistake. And it's not like she wanted to stay away from her now of all times, but because she couldn't bear to watch her like that, and so she prayed every day for her healing.
