Penelope was really scared. She looked at Nicolai as if she were looking at the grim reaper, but at the same time there was a hint of reluctance in her heart. Why was this man protecting Ariana so fiercely? Why not her? She had been with him longer. She knew him better!
She knew him first!
She turned to look at her father and beseech him, "Dad, Dad—stop him. Think about it; Ariana has you all now, but I have no one. I swear, I will not make things difficult for her anymore. I will get married. I swear I will—but if you let him ruin my face, who will marry me?"
"Are you sure?" Theodore asked. Though he knew that Penelope had gone too far, he didn't wish to punish her so heavily.
Marrying her off such that she wouldn't trouble Ariana seemed a much better alternative.
Penelope's eyes brightened when she saw hope. She nodded and said to her father, "I will do it. I will certainly do it. Just please stop him from ruining my face."
