On the way, Officer Kang Haru received a message from Chul Woo. "Seo Eunji's dead body was found in an abandoned animal farm nearby. We have called the forensic team. Where are you, senior?"
"Will approach soon," Kang Haru replied. He took a sigh and sped up the car. He arrived at the crime scene. Chul Woo approached him while they walked inside and explained, "Her body seemed to be mummified due to starvation. Although further forensic results will determine, it seemed like she was starved to death. Her corpse was decomposing slowly. We are looking into Lee Minji's biological relatives who could be involved."
Kang Haru looked at the chalked sketch of the victim's body and glanced around the small, empty room with a high, little vent.
Haru asked, "Did she have anything in her possession?"
"Yes, she had a broken cell phone. We have handed it to NIS for forensic. We will get the results soon."
"Final up here and come to the police station," instructed Haru walking out. "Ahh," he turned around, "Give me the contact number of the student who started the protest, what was his name?"
"Kim Raehyun," Chul Woo replied.
"Yes, yes, send me his contact number."
Chul Woo returned inside, and Haru drove the car away.
Officer Kang Haru entered the observation room and looked through the mirror where Raehyun was being questioned.
"What is he doing here?" Haru asked.
"He is getting investigated as a suspect; he was the one who persisted on giving her a proper punishment," Jin Gyu replied.
"No, he is not the culprit; he was the one to predict that she could be in danger. If he was a culprit, then it's practically saying I'm the culprit."
"Really? But how did he know that?" Jin Gyu asked.
"That's what I want to know," Haru replied and came out of the observation room and entered the interrogation room. "I will take over from here," he said to the fellow officer who came out.
"How did you know that she was in danger?" he asked Raehyun sitting in front of him. "You were the first one to report her missing," he added.
"I tried calling her for days, but her phone was constantly out of service," Raehyun replied and looked drained.
Kang Haru said, "You are a police student yourself; you know it's not enough to report someone missing. Moreover, it's highly possible that she turned off her cell phone because of the unfavorable situation."
Raehyun couldn't come up with a good excuse and stayed silent.
"You invaded her house to go through her things; that is a crime, and you are still not talking," Kang Haru continued. "Did anything happen that made you think she could be in danger?"
Raehyun was bewildered by the whole situation.
"If you stay silent, then we don't have a choice but to suspect you," Haru explained as he observed Raehyun's expression and asked, "What made you think—"
Raehyun closed his eyes and said, "I'm suspicious of my brother."
"Heh," Officer Kang Haru was dumbfounded.
Raehyun replied, "In Hyuk is suspicious."
"So to conclude it, you were suspicious of your brother; that's why you did all of that?" Haru asked.
"Yes," Raehyun replied.
Kang Haru in anger said, "This is the second time you are reporting your brother. I don't know what kind of relationship you brothers have, but the law is not a joke so that you can play with it whenever you want."
Kang Haru stood up and walked to the door, but Raehyun held him by his arm and said, "You need to investigate him."
Kang Haru frowned, sighed, and came out. "Let him go," he instructed to Chul Woo who just came back. Raehyun drove his car home. On the way, his phone rang, and he looked at the screen which said "Father." He stopped the car on one side and answered the phone, "Yes, Father."
"What's wrong with your results? Is that because of the protest? Why are you getting involved in stupid things?" His father asked.
"Father, that is... that is..." he stuttered.
"Listen, we never stopped you from achieving your dream, but that never means you can do stupid things. Just think about our reputation. What will I say to others?" His father said.
Raehyun replied timidly, "I am sorry, father. I will never disappoint you again."
"Just focus on your studies and don't pay attention to trivial matters," he advised and hung up. Raehyun checked his inbox. He totally forgot about his result.
"You are doomed; your ranking fell down drastically. The professor said you will be kicked out if you don't come today," a message from Injae said with a list of results. Raehyun searched for his name, and it was in the 16th rank. For a university top student, that was an extremely bad result. Raehyun sighed and threw punches on the car steering wheel and yelled. He had no choice but to return to the university.
He entered the class and sat down in the last row. He was still arranging his cuffs. The lecture ended, and Professor Kim Hyeong Won said, "Raehyun! Come and see me for a moment."
"Yes," Raehyun replied politely. Injae looked back at Raehyun exiting in worry. He came out and waited for Raehyun in the alley. He smiled warmly as he saw Raehyun coming. "Do you have chances of survival?" he asked playfully.
"Why? Do you expect me to go down?" Raehyun asked.
"Huh, you and going down. Have you forgotten who is your father?" Injae teased.
Raehyun looked at Injae and frowned, "What do you take me for?"
"A spoiled rich jerk," he replied.
Raehyun locked his arms around Injae's neck, and Injae tapped his hand, begging, "Okay, okay, Your Highness, please show your mercy."
Raehyun's hand became numb, and Injae released himself from Raehyun's grip. Smiling, Injae looked at Raehyun's solemn expressions and became serious. While patting his shoulder, Injae said, "Don't worry about it too much; it's not your fault."
Raehyun looked at Injae and smiled. They walked to the lockers to change uniforms.
