Chapter 35: Malice of the Dungeon!
'Boom——'
All fourteen Minotaurs collapsed after being contaminated with black mud.
At first, Ethan thought it was an accident, but then he discovered that it was not an accident at all.
These monsters were simply incompatible with the black mud.
To be precise, their cores were made of a material that was extremely similar to black mud.
Ethan even felt that if he could touch their cores, that is, their 'magic stones', he could probably corrupt and blacken them, and then he could wipe them out.
However, the idea was good. But all the monsters that were invaded by the black mud collapsed directly before they could be corrupted.
This 'collapse' was not caused by the monsters themselves, but rather, it seemed as if he had touched some kind of 'protection mechanism' that caused the Minotaurs' bodies to collapse.
"Could it be..." Ethan couldn't help but look around, at this magnificent underground labyrinth, the dungeon.
The dungeon is a place where monsters are born from the walls and ceilings of the labyrinth and are hostile to humans and gods.
When monsters are killed, their bodies will dissipate, leaving behind magic stones and, in some rare cases, materials.
And the vast majority of monsters have very low intelligence and lack the necessary wisdom for survival. They can only act on instinct.
The dungeon attracts countless adventurers to enter, kill monsters, and obtain magic stones and materials.
The existence of the dungeon can be traced back to the time before the gods descended to this lower realm.
At that time, the monsters that spewed from the dungeon wreaked havoc on the earth, and they were simply synonymous with calamity.
Countless years ago, the great god Ouranos established the city of Orario at the entrance of the dungeon and resided here, using his own divine power to suppress the entire dungeon, and he prayed day and night to suppress the dungeon, creating the current 'labyrinth city'.
However, the dungeon still keeps producing monsters and no one knows why.
In the dungeon, there are all kinds of strange and wonderful monsters, all of which can be said to be the 'children' of the 'dungeon'.
When monsters are killed, their bodies turn into black smoke and disappear completely, leaving behind only a magic stone.
This naturally leads Ethan to a series of associations.
As a 'creation' that was created, when a monster was suddenly invaded, and its 'control' was about to be taken away. So, what would the will of the dungeon do?
"Would it be possible to directly destroy these invaded monsters to prevent this kind of thing from happening?"
Ethan wondered aloud, though he knew it was only speculation. There was no way he could confirm it, but the thought lingered in his mind like a seed of doubt.
In 'Fateverse', the black mud was a terrifying substance that corrupted and blackened Servants swallowed by it.
Suddenly, a loud noise erupted from the surroundings, making Ethan raise his head in shock.
To his horror, he found that a large group of monsters had appeared out of nowhere, each with scarlet eyes fixed on him.
His system issued a warning.
"You, who have been disgusted by the 'will of the dungeon', are about to face retribution."
"Special mission triggered——"
[Special Mission: Malice of the Dungeon!]
[Completion Criteria: Leave the dungeon alive]
[Mission Reward: 500 Diamonds, Time-limited Card Pool is enabled]
Ethan was taken aback by this sudden development and wondered what it all meant.
The monsters around him were making a deafening noise, and Ethan felt beads of sweat beginning to trickle down his forehead.
He recognized all the monsters around him - Goblins, Orcs, Needle Rabbits, Hellhounds, War Shadows, Minotaurs, Kobolds, and more.
Almost all the upper-floor monsters had appeared here.
Ethan wondered if this was an army of monsters mobilizing against him.
He knew he was in for a tough fight, but he was determined to give it his all.
As the monsters began to charge at him, Ethan tightened his grip on his two black swords and activated Mana Burst and the strengthening effect of the black mud.
Though the number of monsters was immense, most of them were high-level monsters.
Under Ethan's current state of 'double strengthening,' they were all dispatched with a single sword strike.
The ferocity in Ethan's bones was fully ignited.
Faced with so many monsters intent on killing him, he naturally desired to eliminate them all. This was no longer a battle but a frenzied slaughter.
Each sword strike sent a spray of blood into the air, claiming the life of a monster.
However, in the dungeon, monsters were plentiful, especially these high-level ones.
The thread of 'reason' was on the verge of snapping, replaced by the survival instinct of a 'beast.' To survive, Ethan would have to resort to any and all means necessary.
'Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh—-'
Space cracks appeared around Ethan, and all types of swords and blades shot out, claiming the lives of one monster after another.
However, in the process, some of the swords and blades were crushed underfoot by the monsters or struck on their bodies, resulting in heavy losses to his arsenal.
At this moment, Ethan had no time to feel remorse. He saw only these monsters before him.
By now, Ethan had already descended into madness. His fighting style had become reckless like a berserker.
Under the onslaught of these monsters, he was covered in wounds, his body bearing varying degrees of injury.
The ground around him was stained red with blood, impossible to distinguish whether it came from the monsters or from Ethan himself.
'Howls—'
'Thud—'
Suddenly, a Minotaur, with a mighty blow, crashed directly into Ethan's side.
Caught off guard, he was directly sent flying.
Ethan's body hit the wall heavily, and he felt a sharp pain in his chest. He couldn't help but spit out a mouthful of blood.
The Minotaur roared and rushed towards Ethan again.
Ethan struggled to stand up, his eyes filled with determination.
He knew that he couldn't give up. If he gave up, he would die.
He had to survive, for himself, for his new life, and for his goddess.
Dying without accomplishing anything, just like his previous life, was something he absolutely didn't want.
'Roar——'
Ethan roared and rushed towards the approaching Minotaur.
The two figures collided, and a fierce battle began.
The battle was fierce, and both sides were injured.
However, Ethan's will to survive was stronger than the Minotaur's.
In the end, Ethan defeated the Minotaur and killed it.
Ethan was exhausted, but he was also relieved.
He had survived.
He had won.
He had defeated the monsters and the dungeon.
He had reached the pinnacle of his life.
The future was bright.
Or so he thought when he was snapped back to reality. A fresh group of monsters were already charging towards him with ferocious intent.
The dungeon was never a place for the faint-hearted, as it showed no mercy to any living being that dared to enter its confines. Its sole purpose was to tear everything apart.
