Chapter 25 - Last Rites (4)

Another milestone: 20 readers. Here is a bonus chapter to celebrate!

In no time, the skeletons army reached the gate of the city, but before they could knock it down, a sudden explosion happened on it making the massive wooden gate fly away… before that could happen, a Mana Bomb hit and exploded hundreds of skeletons.

"They are finally using it…" Aaron furrowed his eyebrows.

Although Aaron only lost a couple hundred of them, he was only able to summon around half of that per minute if he had enough mana to do so. There were plenty of corpses around, but not enough time for him… he also could tell that one minute was the time for the cannon to be ready again.

Before the skeletons could pass through the hole created by the explosion, they were attacked by the people in the walls. The skeletons mage were still a fair distance from them, so the people had the chance to destroy some skeletons… but they focused on blocking the gate with some logs and large boulders.

"I guess they don't want me to see their attacks coming…" Aaron thought. "I will show them that I don't need walls."

As they approached the towering stone walls, the skeleton mages raised their bony hands, conjuring spheres of fire that crackled and swirled with powerful energy. They unleashed their destructive power, hurling fireballs towards the fortifications.

The fireballs soared through the air, trailing fiery tails, their searing heat leaving a smoky haze in their wake. Impacting against the stone, the fireballs erupted into roaring infernos, devouring the centuries-old masonry with an insatiable hunger.

The walls trembled and crumbled under the relentless assault, flames licking at their weathered surfaces. The once-proud bastions now succumbed to the relentless onslaught, chunks of stone cascading down in a shower of debris.

Now the panic began to spread among their ranks. The civilians began to shout in exasperation when they saw their allies burning down close to them and the ground below their feet cracking.

Still, when most of the walls on that side fell, something happened. Aaron furrowed his eyebrows when he saw three Mana Bombs falling on the battefield, destroying hundreds of the skeletons.

"They have more cannons…" Aaron said and then sighed.

The royal couple had made preparations to destroy the enemy country with the mana bombs, but they also made others to make sure that they would remain in power for many years to come with that combination of long ranged cannons and Mana Bombs. They were much farther gone than Aaron had imagined.

Still, Aaron could tell that it was the first time they were using the cannons. Reloading them should be relatively easy for them, the real problem was aiming and fixing the aim after the shots. Aaron had to deal with them before that could happen.

After making some clay golems climb each other, Aaron jumped on their shoulder and then pointed his index finger to the castle in the distance. He was five kilometers away, with his dexterity, he wasn't anywhere close enough to aim properly… Still, he fired a barrage of Bone Spears at it.

Like missiles, the bone spears flew toward the castle, Aaron couldn't tell where the cannons were, he would only be able to see it once they shoot, but it didn't matter. The main building, the towers, the whole structure, he hit them all and made them fall apart from that distance. In the end, the cannons were never fired again.

The soldiers and the civilians fighting didn't have the chance to see the castle falling, so they kept fighting the same way as before, but they began to panic once they realized and they didn't know why they were no longer getting fire support.

The skeletons and the clay golems invaded the city and began to kill everyone on their way and destroy every single building. The skeleton mages gave them true fire support, even thought it was unnecessary. They just sped up the victory.

Aaron was receiving even less experience than before, but he was leveling up faster since the city had hundreds of thousands of people. Slowly, he followed his army toward the castle to confirm that his job was finished. At the same time, he summoned more and more clay golems since they would be better for his plans.

The city in the blink of an eye was destroyed. Some people tried to escape once they realized that the battle was over, but Aaron used his skeleton knights to surround the city and kill everyone that tried to leave.

While he crossed the destroyed streets filled with blood, he saw countless bodies on the way. Aaron didn't look at any of those, he just remained his dark and somber expression while he walked toward the castle. It wasn't the first time that he saw that, but it didn't matter how many times he saw it, he would never get used to the destruction that he caused…

Those people would destroy themselves and their worlds alongside it, their doom was imminent… it was better for him to swing the blade himself. Aaron said those words to himself, but he didn't feel any better. At that point in time, they lost their value.

Once he reached the castle, Aaron confirmed that pretty much everything had been destroyed. The throne was covered in huge blocks of concrete, but he moved them away with his bone spears before he sat on it and then sighed before giving the final order to his clay golems and skeletons.

"Destroy everything in this world and kill them all,"
