Lapis's method didn't tell him about conjuring an Eyeball. Instead, it was a pair of ethereal eyes directly connected to his and enhancing his overall vision with Focus.
But Aeron modified the ability to make a single-eye like that Winged-Eye and replaced his right eye's vision with it. This would also lower the consumption of spirit and curse energy done by using Focus.
